Topic | What game should I play next? |
Johnbobb 02/21/24 8:08:09 PM #1: | Other games I've played recently: Metal: Hellslingser Fantastic soundtrack, frustrating rhythm-combat that never fully clicked with me and hit weird difficulty spikes out of nowhere. Slay the Spire Honestly, didn't click with me as much as I hoped it would. I'm not a big fan of roguelikes in general, but with the ones I like, I think part of what makes them work is that even when you lose (which you will, of course), it still in a way feels like a victory because you get new story beats, new opportunities, new upgrades, etc. Here, when you lose it, it just sort of ends and you start back from the beginning. It doesn't feel like there's much incentive continue unless you really love the gameplay loop itself, which didn't grab me that much. Hogwarts Legacy The castle itself is fantastic. It's fleshed out, expansive, and endlessly fun to just wander through and still discover new secrets late into the game. The surrounding highlands were pretty bland, and going through caves got really old. There's a lot of good here in the story, characters, combat and world-building, but it suffers from trying to do too much. There aren't enough spell slots to put the spells it gives you since all the non-combat magic fits into the same slots as the combat-magic. It tries to include potion making and herbology and creature collecting and collect-a-thon-ing and treasure hunts, and a lot of it ends up kinda falling to the wayside. There's a lot of quality of life improvements that could make it a legitimatley great game. Tell Me Why Wanted to play this one for years, but didn't have a way to do so. Recently got a Steam Deck and this is the first game I played. Definitely feels a lot like Life is Strange, but didn't click with me quite as much. Still good though. Suffers from The Exit 8 Short, cheap horror game getting popular with streamers who either intentionally play wrong for viewership or are legitimately terrible. Very creepy, good way to spend like 40 minutes. The Artful Escape You don't really do much beyond push right on the analog stick and occasionally play brief Simon Says-esque rhythm games, but it's gorgeous and the soundtrack is top tier, to the point it's worth playing for that alone. Hi-Fi Rush Very enjoyable but didn't quite live up to all the hype. There's a lot to love about it, most notably basically every character except for Chai. Getting kind of tired of games having great, interesting side casts and a generic template of a main character. The rhythm-based combat was intriguing (and easier to sync with than Metal: Hellsinger imo) and the humor and visuals were excellent. I do wish there was some changes to the platforming though; having you character only really able to jump straight up makes the actual platforming kinda frustrating. McPixel 3 Currently playing now and then, absolutely stupid in a very intentional way. --- Khal Kirby, warlord of the Super Star Khalasar PSN/Steam: CheddarBBQ https://goo.gl/Diw2hs ...
