Yes and no. People like to say that media literacy is at an all time low but really it's more that people like to show their ass for no reason on social media. And by no reason I usually really mean shoehorn things into an unflinching worldview, but I digress.

I'd say that "extremely smart" is too far and probably pandering, but even if audiences aren't smarter I would say they're more discerning. If for no other reason, there are too many movies and shows and etc in this genre to watch everything by most people's standards.

However, even if I'm just completely off base, budgets are simply too bloated for the same wide-net tactics to work, let alone to continually dig deeper.
