It's a big hole in the whole "kids these days don't know how to change a tire" narrative. Many younger people indeed don't know how to do basic vehicle maintenance or other similar tasks that can be handy to know but come up relatively rarely, but they do know how to find out. The Internet is a gold mine of directions for tasks like that, often with step-by-step video guides, such that there's very little reason to learn them before they're actually needed. The idea that everyone needs to know and every parent has a responsibility to pass the knowledge on to their children is just outdated.
