It was a rhetorical question, but your answer is likely the largest contributing factor.

Now we should be fighting for less time working in the age of computers, instant international communication, supersonic travel, robotic automation, etc...

The people who own the means of production did not invent all those technologies they use and hoard through artificially depressed wages and an admitted goal of economic insecurity for the working class.
