Yeah, I've heard of people being resentful of how their life is going and blaming it on their kid(s). And as a father, I can kind of get intrusive thoughts like that creeping in every now and again. The infant phase can be pretty rough.

But I've never heard of anyone taking it so far to just straight up abandon their toddler for a week and a half. And then she was surprised that her baby was dead?

Yeah I'll fully admit that newborns are the hardest to take care of by far. They will cry for various of things and most of the time you have to guess what they are crying about and will do so on their accord, not yours which includes nights of no sleep. There were nights where I didn't get sleep for 3 days straight (thank goodness for paternal leave being a thing) and I had thoughts of "did I make a mistake?" and "I give and give, while this brat takes and takes. It's never good enough for them is it!". Upon self-reflection, what did make it easier was that I did have a family safety net to help like my wife and both of our parents to assist. If I had to take care of the newborn all by myself, I might have gotten crazy as well. Not to the extent of what the monster did here, but I would probably be bald ripping my hair out or maybe even yell at the baby to shut up...which is a scary thought the more I think about it. Luckily my second new born is ALOT easier as I'm not struggling that much anymore as I did with my first newborn (who was insanely high maintenance) or maybe I got better (that's what my wife says).
