I don't think it was malicious, or even intentional, but having the first starring role for your most prominent female character revolving around switching emotions - and where the MacGuffin is called the Vibe Scepter - just makes the "Haha, mood swings and dildos! Women!" too easy, even if they're not warranted, and it's bad optics for sure.

The Emotion mechanics are actually pretty interesting and lead to some good variety and tactical thinking, and it is a decent (if unspectacular) game, but accidental or not they probably should have seen that they were running into some potential backlash.
