I might be slightly misunderstanding here, but going off of the picture I really don't see how any sort of zoning change in that particular boxed in area would fix the housing problem. Even all the speculation around height and views seems to be based on the assumption that at least one of the buildings in that area would be knocked down to be replaced by something else. Is the plan here to just forcibly evict everyone living in one of those buildings?

I don't think anyone is saying that this specific area is going to fix the housing crisis. San Francisco is trying to become more pro-housing, which means building more homes everywhere from low-income to high-income areas.

More homes everywhere will help solve the issue. People who care about this issue should rightfully be mad of attempts to hinder a pro -housing movement.
