This monster is probably a direct reference to The Evil Dead (both the original and remake), where a woman is attacked and intimately assaulted by possessed trees. The tree also kills or devours some victims instead of assaulting them.

Stories of man-eating or otherwise dangerous trees predate film. Some literary examples include "The Flowering of the Strange Orchid" (1894) by H. G. Wells and the legendary "Yatevo" tree featured in a number of horror stories of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
