Operation Condor or the US Cold War policy in Latin America that gave approval to dictators there was bad and the poster boy for it gets all the hate while others that were even worse much worse in some cases get none. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the poster boy came into power on September 11 as well as the fact that the US was more "hands on" with this guy compared to the rest. Personally I think a lot of leftists complaints about dictators are more about bashing US foreign policy than any principled stand against tyrants. Look at Suharto, people bring him up to bash Carter and that's about it.
