Sandman is technically DC, but it lacks any of the superhero stuff that's more typical of the franchise. It's widely considered to be one of the greatest graphic novels of all time.

Lucifer is a spinoff of Sandman and is also just tits.

Rising Stars. After a meteorite crashes to Earth, all of the babies in utero in a nearby town develop superpowers as they grow older. They're collected and instructed by the government, but they're not turned into assassins or even hidden from the public eye, they're just taught how to control their abilities and researched. When they're adults, they all go their separate ways. The inciting incident is that someone suddenly starts killing them off.

Miracleman is a fucking banger series that I never see anyone talk about. It's based on a British Golden Age comic called Marvelman (the rights got kinda fucky, hence the rename) which was a blatant rip-off of Captain Marvel/Shazam: Mike Moran meets an astroscientist who gives him the ability to turn into the superpowered Miracleman when he says Kimota (atomic backwards).

The original comic had all the goofy kid comic stuff you'd expect, but they hired Alan Moore to revive it and he Alan Moore'd it. Mike is now a guy in his forties who doesn't remember being Miracleman, but he has strange nightmares about being a superhero. When he's covering a story on a nuclear reactor, it's attacked by terrorists who knock him upside the head. In a daze, he sees the word atomic on the wall and remembers his trigger phrase. And from there, it's full Alan Moore.

Fables is a series about fairy tale characters who are forced to flee their Homeland when a tyrannical conqueror known only as the Adversary attacks their worlds. They establish Fabletown on a street of NYC. If you've played Telltale's A Wolf Among Us, this is the series that game was based on.

The Walking Dead. Probably kind of passe to suggest this given AMC's eighty-seven seasons, but the comic is genuinely good.

Preacher is one I'm hesitant to suggest. It's very, very good, but it's also very, very stupid. A disillusioned preacher named Jesse Custer is possessed by a supernatural creature called Genesis, the result of an unholy union between an angel and a devil. It lacks a mind of its own, but it bestows Jesse with the Voice of God which gives him the ability to compel others to follow his command and rivals the power of God Himself. When Jesse learns this, he decides to go out and find God to give the sumbitch a good talking to for all the suffering and horror in the world. Along the way he meets vampires, Nazis, chicken-fucking hillbillies, rapists-for-hire, an ancient Christian Illuminati, and more shit I don't remember.

Again, I must stress that this series is very, very stupid.
