I think it's one thing for a Japanese dev studio to be very insular, like Nintendo or something. But western studios like Niantic can't really get away with that imo. There's a reason every single other game they've made has failed. They are bad game developers who make bad business decisions and ignore their playerbase's wishes

If they didn't luck into literally the largest media franchise in the world, they would have gone out of business years ago since nobody gives a shit about augmented reality anymore. I really wish The Pokemon Company would pull the license and give the game to a better developer. It could be a much higher quality product that makes more money and is more player-friendly

While there are obviously flaws with Niantic lets not go with the whole better developer side because the nature of phone games will always try to find ways to monetize the consumers because by their very design they have to gain something to constantly continue as a service.
