I'm not ashamed of playing Pokemon (though I'm not as big a fan as most around here), but I don't even DO the other things.

Ignorance.

I can understand people who are tired of Pokemon's same old same old formula but in all fairness, Pokemon Gold/Silver and especially Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow were outstanding games for its time. Even the new ones are fun to play if you discount the fact that they are the same thing with better graphics.

xfd @ those who didn't choose to vote without playing Pokemon at all or beyond the first few hours and thinks hating Pokemon is retro.

But looking at the poll options again. Playing Pokemon as an adult is no shame. Hiding the fact however is. It just shows your insecurity.

The poll itself is full of ignorant options. I'm pretty sure everyone has done atleast a little of everything except the 4th option which is the only legit one and maybe the 2nd.

Pretty much this, although I'm really only 6teen, so even that didn't work completely, but it came the closest.

I admit that these days, I always look at a walkthrough at least once while playing it.

I could still probably beat the game without one, but it would mean another hour lost in frustration. So I just skip the frustration, I see no reason not to. I have other things to do and I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone.

It's not like there are 5 games in the world and pokemon is one of them. I can play countless games, and shame on me if I choose to buy and play the same game many times instead of the many awesome new games out there that are actually original and will offer me experiences I have not been through before.

Even if it's only a "good" original game, I will pick it over a "great" more-of-the-same game (see: God of War Pokemon CoD etc)

For a start, re-read the post you just quoted. It's pretty good explanation, but I'll elaborate a little for your sake.

Pokemon represents some of the worst things about gaming - fans will buy rehashes like crazy, resulting in countless sequels which are essentially more of the same. It's all about the blind, zealous devotion, and I don't like that in gaming. Nintendo are releasing two versions of the same game and people buy right into it, a whole lot of them even buy them both! So Nintendo keep doing it. If you don't understand why that is disturbing to a normal gamer, I guess I can't help you even if I wrote a whole essay. I can't really blame Nintendo, every company likes to make money, but the fans are certainly to blame. People need to learn to vote with their wallets. Blind devotion has never, does not, and will never help gaming in any way.

As a game, Pokemon is certainly nothing special - the first time it was fun as a whole, I even played a couple more in hope for a new experience, but screw wasting my time playing more of them. There's just much better, more interesting stuff out there.

It's not about it being kiddy, even if that doesn't help its case (as trying to appeal to kids hurts important aspects of the game). But Mario is also kiddy, which, for instance, didn't stop 64 from being a vastly different experience in comparison to the previous games.

Like it or not, Pokemon is old news.

Well if you really do hate Pokemon for its insane number of rehashes, then I don't blame you. Hating on Pokemon for the wrong reasons (and trust me you'll be surprised how many people hate on the game without even playing it just to be 'cool' on the internet, kinda similar to FF7 haters) however is just pathetic.
Off topic, I assume you don't like Mega Man either.
It is no secret that Pokemon literally takes no effort to be creative anymore but still the first Pokemon game remains one of the best handheld games of all time. Calling Pokemon Red, Blue or Yellow a bad game just shows your poor taste in gaming.

I wouldn't consider myself a fan of Pokemon (why? because the best Pokemon game can barely make it into my Top 50) but I can't deny I enjoyed the first two games a lot.

Yeah, I also enjoyed Crystal (the first one I played) a good bit, then I played Yellow, and Sapphire was where I stopped.

Not a Mega Man fan, either, I just never got into it, but the situation there is a bit different. While there was a time when Capcom milked Mega Man like crazy (and now, for some reason, they like to pretend he doesn't exist), at the very least, the amount of people who will buy anything Mega Man is significantly lower. But I can see if that's the first non-Nintendo analogy to come to mind. :)
