I'm not sure which game I prefer, ZFS. I'd need to replay FFXII, but boy oh boy, I have such a laundry list of games that that won't be happening any time soon.

I do resent all the "Xenoblade is FFXII done right" sentiment I've seen, since I never thought XII was the debacle that these people apparently felt it was. I do dislike how XII's stellar premise falls on its ass IMO, though, and that's a huge, huge deal for me. Huge enough for my tastes that it ends up in the middle of the series for me.

I've only been bored during a couple RPGs so far. Whenever I start playing something I usually play it most of the day. RPGs where I was bored: FFII, FFIII DS, FFVII, FFXII and Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World.
both great games, but for me Xenoblade edges XII in every major category. Graphics, Music, Story, Characters, Battle System, Subquests, Exploration. Everything. It just takes what made XII fun game for me and makes them better
Yeah, FFXII has plenty of problems. It aimed high, though, and I enjoy that it went in that direction. I'm pretty weird with games like that, though, so I tend to be more forgiving with games that tried and fell short versus perfected the formula.

I don't think I'll ever join the ranks of, say, GMUN levels of admiration toward it, but it's definitely one of the higher-tier games I've played in recent years.

From: LeonhartFour | #059 I'm generally forgiving when it comes to games because I can tell what a game is trying to do, even if it doesn't get there.
Can't say I really liked what FFXII tried to do for the most part though. I definitely loved what it was going for and it's just such a shame Matsuno fell ill. I would have adored the f*** outta the game if he hadn't left, I think. Which is easy as pie to say, but I have ample evidence to support that claim. Even still, I definitely like XII a lot more than you, so yeah, worked out well enough in the end, I suppose.
From: ZFS | #061 If only other people here shared that thought! Many Mass Effect 1 arguments. Gawsh, seriously.

I forgot to include FF4. I got so bored of 2 & 3DS I haven't even bothered to finish them. Just not interested in them at all, but I tend to feel that way about really early RPGs like that.
I'm one of those rare people on Board 8 who actually likes AC1, but I don't really like it for the reasons you do. I thought those aspects of the game were kinda meh.
But I never got tired of running rooftops, climbing stuff, chasing down targets, and killing beggars.
I definitely got kind of tired of AC1. Can't really agree with ZFS' Holy Trinity thanks to that. ME1 and UC1 are both great games though, but I wouldn't call either of them best in show, which I think ZFS believes? I dunno, basically I'd call myself a moderate on this issue, whereas ZFS represents one extreme and general opinion represents another. >_>

Nah, HM doesn't think UC1 is the best game in the series, as far as I recall.
UC1 and AC1 fall under the same category for me: Good games on their own that are just outclassed by their successors. I'd have a hard time going back to AC1 after AC2. I could probably play UC1 again though, just using cheats like one-hit kills and the like.

even though I've been looking forward to it for years it's a shame I've already committed myself to playing nothing but Vesperia from the 28th to the 8th because I don't think I'll be able to complete Xenoblade by then.
