There's a sealed copy of the PC version in a shop down the road from my office for £2, and despite it being a colossal failure I'm tempted to pick it up just because it is an iconic piece of gaming history.

But every time I nearly buy it I remember that it's reputed to be nothing but derivative rubbish and immature 'humour' layered on top. And there's the fact that, although it does appear to be sealed, it's mostly a second-hand shop and I don't want to end up with another useless Steam key if it's somehow already been activated then wrapped up again.

So... worth picking up for next to nothing as a curiosity, or is it really that bad and should just be forgotten? Oh, and I don't care about multiplayer. Solo campaign only.

PC version? yes.
console version? no.

consoles got a bad port, which is part of why a lot of bad reviews and complaints hit. on the PC you'll get maybe 3-5 seconds of loading times depending on your hardware, but on the consoles it was like 45 seconds at times. consoles got more glitches to 'em too and they didn't get the patches that PC did, which included stuff like raising the weapons limit from 2 to 4, which makes it reach a point where you can use whatever you want and be fine.

Waitwaitwait, patch to raise the weapon limit?

Crap, now I have to go back and play the game again. Two weapons made it feel almost unplayable. It just did not suit the Duke.

yeah, PC gets all the goodies. 4 weapons is a good number if you want to make a limit, 2 is just... restrictive. i mean you could always just force every weapon down if you wanted, but yeah.

Never. Not for $5, not for $0. There is nothing good in it whatsoever.

Unless like, you love horrible gameplay and hate women. Then this is the game for you.

I liked Duke Nukem. In the first five minutes of the game, I drew a moustache on a picture of a robot and the game gave me an achievement for doing so.

For that low, hell yeah you should get it. I regret buying it full price when it came out but that store is practically giving it to you!
