The launch has honestly been kind of bad. Squeenix was not at all prepared for the swarm of returning players descending on their servers so queue times to even get in have been huge (for the biggest servers at peak times queues of 2,000 people or more are not unusual) and there have been issues with there not being enough dedicated instance servers for all the players, which is a particular problem because there's a solo instance a few hours into the main storyline. It's largely been resolved now but on launch day there were huge swarms of people standing around a single NPC, clicking on him and desperately hoping the servers would let them in to the instance. Very few won the lotto.

Things have been getting better, but there's still a lot of server congestion. Check this:

Yeah, I saw some literal queues posted on Twitter over the last week. Ridiculous! But like I said, I'm pretty far behind so the rush I'll experience is all the new players who bought the complete collection catching up on old MSQs.

I got it and was there for the horribleness that were the first few days. Other than that though, the content is really good and I'm super into it.

Red Mage may be the best designed job in the game imo



Sadly just after everything started to get fixed my desktop died and now I have to wait for it to get fixed which blows

But I was really enjoying what I did play of it.

Every expansion launch is like that. FFXI after updates was always a disaster

I did. Been playing in early access but not much, only up to 64 so far.

I'm on ragnarok but will likely transfer once congestion dies down. For now being on ragnarok works great for me (EU server and I'm in the US)

Yeah this is where being a US player on an EU server worked out for me. Literally no queue, got in first try

Yeah I spent the first two days leveling Red Mage up to 60 while the story was broken, now I'm going through it although very slowly. It seems like good stuff so far! Cactuar btw.

If you're undecided on coming back, I think the returner campaign is still going on. If you've been unsubbed for at least 90 days, you can have someone on your friends list invite you back and get a week of playtime. Might want to wait a week or two, though. I was still getting errors last night on occasion.

Red Mage is fun, but it's been so long since I really played FF14 that the combat is a little tough especially when getting all these new abilities at once. I'm not sure where to go to find level-appropriate gear for red mage, and searching for answers brings up nothing. So it's like, I can't really USE red mage now because the armor I have to wear for it is way below level.

Use one of Jolt/Verfire/Verstone (preferring the later two as they are more potency), then use one of Veraero/Verthunder (whichever one you have less mana of- for instance if you have 20 white and 30 black, you would use Veraero). Lather, rinse, repeat until you hit 80/80 or above on your mana gauge. Once you have, do your melee combo.

Use Acceleration and Fleche on cooldown.

That about does it for your starting skills.

As an fyi it won't kick you if it 'thinks' you're doing something. So if you talk to an npc or marketboard or retainer and never close the textbox/ menu then it thinks you're active

Basically if you know you're going afk, start a conversation with nearest npc and walk away. Never get kicked. I've used it to avoid login queues since 2.0

Just hit level 70 a few hours ago. Love this game.

Haven't touched Samurai yet beyond unlocking it but I've heard really good things

Public service announcement: If you're looking to level jobs...

1) If you haven't already, do the main scenario quests. Those plus your daily duty finder bonuses should be enough to take one job to 70.

2) After that, if you're leveling a tank or a healer the most time-efficient grind is duty finder dungeons.

3) If you're leveling a DPS class or you just get tired of dungeons, the most time-efficient source of experience up to level 60 is the Palace of the Dead. Queue for floors 51-60, complete it, reset your progress and repeat. From levels 61-70 the most time-efficient source of experience is PVP (yes, even if you suck at it and lose all the time you still get tons of experience).

It will even out after everyone gets over the initial rush of trying out the new jobs.

Yoshida said that according to their data, almost nobody switched roles going from ARR > Heavensward. People that played tank stayed tank, people that played dps stayed dps, and people that played healer stayed healer.

The FF14 subreddit did a bunch of polls and surveys etc after this statement about what people were planning on maining in Stormblood and more or less came to the same conclusion, so that's what will probably happen.

Not really. Currently FF14 has 3 tanks, 3 healers, and 9 DPS jobs. Compare that to similar games - SWTOR has 3 tanks, 3 healers, and 18 DPS specs, while WOW has 6 tanks, 6 healers, and 23 DPS specs (granted I've never played WOW, so my count may be off). If anything, FF14 has disproportionately few DPS jobs.

And yeah, things will calm down once everyone gets done leveling their Samurai and Red Mage and goes back to whatever it was they played before.
