Is this another limited-time, hard-to-find collectible?

Every indication says yes. Nintendo says there will be a greater supply of the SNES Classic compared to its predecessor, whichsold 1.5 million systems in just a few months.

But Nintendo will only commit to the SNES Classic being sold through the end of 2017. In classic Nintendo language, that doesn't confirm or deny availability beyond that point. But it makes me very concerned about anyone being able to easily buy one.

places like amazon put in ways to protect against that. For example, when they released the Skyward Sword amiibo, it was limited to 1 per Amazon Prime account.

So if you wanted 10, you'd need 10 different prime accounts, and 10 different VMs running a bot to buy it, and then you've only bought 10 despite this monumental effort. (It would be very hard to get a bot to sign up for a prime account).
