I know lots of Americans I think very highly of, but I think the country itself has too many problems and has become increasingly toxic over the course of my life. It's a hot mess, and the Christian equivalent of places like Iran these days, just with the means to impose its will globally.

Your mistake was ever thinking of another country as "the good guys". It's one thing to like specific foreigners of another country, that's actually a great thing if they're good people, but always be suspect of other foreign powers; at best they're just looking to screw you over economically to improve themselves a little.

The US is a Corporate Oligarchy,or Corporatocracy, not an autocracy. Palps didn't hand the reigns over to private contractors, he was beholden to no one. He may have delegated to his governors, but 1) they weren't private corporations and 2) if they fucked up he'd have no problems force lightening them. Palpatine is much closer to someone like Augustus than Reagan. In fact I wouldn't be surprised at all if Lucas modeled him entirely off of Augustus.

First off, there are a few countries with enough nukes to destroy the world several times over so that's a hollow claim. Equally hollow is the claim that America's "climate change denial" (an ironic charge given that Americans have been the ones stumping hardest for it) threatens the human race

Except it doesn't really have a history of using them, considering how many wars have gone by without one being used. It's like claiming that Britain has a history of cannibalism in war time because it was done once during a war.

America is a nifty place where diverse people conglomerate into insular groups and insular people expand into diverse groups.

The news state that America is very evil with lots of gun violence, and that New York and LA are the only places that matter. But I know better, most people are goods and when you have a billion people then a public crime every week maths out perfectly fine and may even be low on average.

America is also responsible for saving the banana by conquering island nations where they thrive.

Anyways, i see America as a lot of people with good intentions, but no idea how to be good. So they stumble along accidentally doing good, usually doing bad, sometimes being downright evil.
America is a country where a gun is worth more than a person. An unborn baby is worth more than a family. And corporate interests rule everything from off shore. But it's also a country where your allowed to defend yourself and others. And it's where the hardest working (or sleaziest) still manage to elevate themselves above others. So there are still dreams there.

It was far easier to cull the population down in that era though, in terms of repercussions. Sure there's nuclear deterrence now, and nukes can end most of the world as we know it, but it's less likely to happen now than some insane conqueror taking over half the globe back then.

Is this the article you read? Where it outright admits the number is a guess?

He was responsible for the deaths of as many as 40 million people.

While it’s impossible to know for sure how many people perished during the Mongol conquests, many historians put the number at somewhere around 40 million. Censuses from the Middle Ages show that the population of China plummeted by tens of millions during the Khan’s lifetime, and scholars estimate that he may have killed a full three-fourths of modern-day Iran’s population during his war with the Khwarezmid Empire. All told, the Mongols’ attacks may have reduced the entire world population by as much as 11 percent.

It totally ignores how China was getting smaller. So naturally their population dropped.

Eh, I'll reserve judgement, because I'm not convinced that a videogame forum is the best keyhole through which to peep at America, and I'm not sure it's fair to judge a nation of 325 million people by Donald Trump.

There are lots of things about America that I admire and envy -- and there are plenty of things about America that get me shaking my head and gritting my teeth. The Americans I've known in real life have been better ambassadors for your country than many of the ones I've known online, so I'm praying that cyber America is only a parody of the real thing. Again, videogame forum maybe not the best keyhole, etc. And I'm not sure the mirrors that American film and TV like to think they hold up to American society really give a faithful reflection of it.

Trump lost the popular vote but won the electoral by a large margin. That's kind of expected considering California and New York are massive Dem strongholds though. I suspect that Republicans will not win the popular vote for a long time just because of those two cities.

Also. Seriously, there is no comparison to what Ghengis Khan did. Some of his achievements include...

1) Killing off 11% of the world population at the time.

2) Unleashing the Black Death upon Europe.

3) Raping so many woman that a notable percentage of the world population (8% of Asians and 0.5% of the world population) are his own descendants.

4) Pillaging the Middle East SO hard that it's still suffering the impact of his deeds today.

5) Creating pyramids of skulls MULTIPLE times.

6) Destroying so many books that 'the rivers ran black with ink'.

And that's just some the notable stuff. Basically, in order to even start to compare, Trump would need to nuke an entire nation. Not just a city or a tiny one like Iceland, but something on-par with France in order to be in the same league of evil.

In terms of 'evil people' he's not in the top ten by a longshot where he's got people like Khan, the Kim dynasty, Stalin, Hitler, and so-forth to compete against. He's probably not even in the top 100 due simply to the sheer number of mass murderers, psychopaths, and the like humanity has produced over it's several thousand years of existence.

My theory is that a lot of Alt-leftists don't realize that the world doesn't revolve around America and it's president (even if they are among the most important, arguably the most important, players), slept through history class, and thinks that people like Hitler didn't actually exist but are rather myths made up to have a bad guy for Captain America to punch in the comics.

Given that the three presidents before him weren't the right people either -- and the guys before that were dodgy as well -- he's in good company.

Otherwise, given the trend towards centralization of power and the elimination of the free market in favor of government institutions, it might be a fascist state in 100 years.
