I found this house on Zillow. It's in my metro area and the location, is where all these huge houses are. They are very very big houses and they are amazing. Look through the pictures guys and tell me if you would buy this house.

Or, how about an 18,000 Square Foot House?

I find the price of that house reasonable. Where do you live that you can get that house for cheaper?

Maybe if it was 2,500 square foot.

8k is insane.

exactly. that's WAY more space than i could possibly need so it would just end up costing time and money to maintain. no thanks.

my current house is just over 1500 sq ft and it's just right.

It's reasonable given its distance to downtown, lot size, square footage and amenities, yes. As house for, say, me and my fiance and literally no one else is excessive on a variety of fronts (including our budget)

That said:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/17018-Grant-Rd-Cypress-TX-77429/27809668_zpid/

Most of the 8000+ square foot single families built after 2000 are in the 1m+ range, even in TX. Once you allow for foundations built back in the early 1900's you find some that are less than 1m.

but seriously -- why would someone want 8000 sq ft, aside from the novelty of just having that much space?

I've got 1850 sq ft and it's just fine for a family of three or four. I'd like something more in the 25-2800 range but it's just not in the cards right now.

8k sq ft is just insane. I can't imagine what the heating bill would be on that here.

Damnit. Seeing things like this is why I will definitely be moving back to the US in the future. I hate the small housing in Japan and lack of being able to buy land.
I would absolutely go for a house that large, provided it was in a location where friends could visit and I could make use of all of the space.

House I'm looking at is 4918sq ft and it's $1.85m.

Still looking at a housekeeper even with that. Although I haven't had a housekeeper in a long time.
It's cause I'm married and wife usually cleans, but we got the baby now so I dunno.

Location makes a big difference. Much rather buy this house in granite bay than somewhere in the boonies of missouri or alabama. Granite bay is right next to sacramento, its also a short drive to tahoe, and maybe like 2.5 hr drive to san francisco and the bay. granite bay is a nice place.

the interior is beautiful but I wouldn't buy it cuz of the yard. If im spending tha tmuch on a house, I want a nice large yard that I can work on and hang out in. I would at least want a half-court bball court, a pool with a bar, and a bbq area. All that has is a downhill walk to a plain gazeebo.

And I dunno the average house price in northern sac area. Im only really familiar with the bay area. So I'd be uncomfortable spending that much in an area I'm not very very comfortable with.

Theres a big difference between thse houses. The house TC posted has a much more modern and better done interior. Not to mention all the upstairs rooms have narrow ceilings because of the shape, which is claustraphobic. The large outdoor deck is just ugly. That house needs hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of work to look as aesthetic as TC's house. Not to mention the location difference is huge.

And if we're sharing houses, this is in the same town where my parents live. It's not even a super wealthy town, certainly nowhere near Fairfield, but this is 50 Cents house that he's trying to sell. By far the biggest in the state (for sale I mean, and maybe in general).

Nice yard but lol that size

I really need to move back to Georgia one day and live like a king. My parent's house is significantly bigger than that and I'm pretty sure it didn't cost more than 400k being near Johns Creek

Edit: looking at more pics it's not "significantly" bigger but still looks bigger than that, especially if the house in the OP doesn't have a full basement
