Which is unfortunate but necessary. You'd be pissing off a lot more people by leaving it the way it was.

Like this is a pretty low-scale change as well. There's characters in League of Legends that have been reworked 5-6 times in drastic ways because their kits were (are) toxic garbage. Better to keep trying than to leave it the way it was.

Broken can also mean something is no longer good ya know. Also it's far unhealthier for a character to be literally worthless for god knows how many total weeks or months before being fixed with there being no guarantee he will even be good afterwards. Roadhog was great before, but could still be shut down with teamwork. Honestly there's something far unhealthier than Roadhog ever was and that's a pocketed Pharah on console. Literally a monster and you don't even need to have good aim to wreck people while they helplessly do papercut damage to you. From what I hear most of the top ten or whatever in the top 500 are Pharah players.

Like, at the end of the day, the most perfect balanced character imagineable is worthless if they're not fun. I don't care if he's better if he sucks, and yes, he would still suck if he went full defense. Boring is sucking. If Roadhog was defacto the best character in the game but still as boring as he is to play right now, he'd still be crashing towards a 0% pick rate for me, down from maybe the 40% he was at.

Roadhog not getting his damage back might be what turns me off of Overwatch finally, which might be a good thing approaching 400 hours.

No, it doesn't. Character go through phases of not being good ALL THE TIME. Roadhog is not a special snowflake in this regard. Balance is hard and it takes time to adjust. Sombra was awful for like 3 months after release, but they stuck with her kit and tuned it until she was in a good spot. They could have immediately given her some broken ability to make her viable but what would that have accomplished? Her mere prescense would have been shitty for the game.

Roadhog being able to be beaten in pre-nerf state does not mean he was okay, either. Peak Widowmaker was beatable and had certain counters but that didn't make her not awful to fight.

Honestly, the way you're talking it sounds like this is your first character-based multiplayer game. The ebb and flow of character strength is just something you have to get used to. Tracer is my favorite character and there's been times when she was awful. It happens. A character spending weeks underpowered is absolutely nothing in the scope of the big picture. Sometimes it takes literal years to fix them.

Deal with it? If Tracer had infinite dashes, would you be okay with Tracer fans telling people it shouldn't be removed because it was fun for them? Like, if the change makes you stop playing Overwatch, oh well. That's not everyone elses' problem.

Funnily enough I just played a mystery Heroes game with roadhog and had a great time. The trick was standing next to the Orisa and pulling in enemies to their doom while behind the barrier. Enemies went down pretty damn quickly.

I think my main point of disagreement here is the under or overpowered issue. To me Roadhog is damage. If he's not damage, he's not Roadhog. If these changes to a more defensive, less damaging Roadhog go through, that's not a change to Roadhog. That, to me means they took Roadhog out of the game and replaced him with someone else. Even right now, I don't feel like Roadhog is even a character in Overwatch anymore. Now it's Roadpig, his descendant.

From what I've heard Tracer is literally the only character to not be touched for buffs and nerfs so how could she ever have been awful? Almost everybody agrees she's always been one of the hardest characters to deal with. You didn't even mention my Pharah comment either. She's way worse than Roadhog ever was. At least Roadhog is almost always in a range where you can do actual damage to him. I've got almost 1,000 hours on this game and Pharah constantly being healed is the worst character to fight. When your best counter is "praying you have a Widowmaker with godly aim" there is a big problem...

That happens. Like I said, there are League of Legends characters that have gone through five iterations. The majority of the cast has had a rework at this point. Some minor, some major. Standards evolve over time. It sucks when a character builds up an identity and it has to change, but them's the breaks. Some people will stop playing but it's necessary - and honestly the number of people that will actually stop playing because of unfavorable changes to a single character is extremely low. There's a bunch of characters in these games.

Well they aren't buffing his dps and if he isn't patched this Tuesday with the event it's likely he won't be patched until September at the earliest so that's a long time to go for a character to be literally unplayably bad. With the defensive buffs they likely won't ever buff his dps either without reducing his defenses to compensate. I mean I don't think he's dead forever, but I'm not hopeful he will ever be good or fun for me anytime soon. I'm better off using any other tank in the meantime.

Ugh getting stuck with a super incompetent team is so annoying. Literally let the enemies run circles around us and none of the 4 DPS were killing Bastion or Tracer. I was trying to be tanks to push the payload since the enemy had some squishies and Symmetra. We had two healers, Pharah, Genji and Soldier who couldn't even do 1 job

Lost this next one because my team had virtually no DPS. Mei and Sombra didn't think switching was a good idea when our team was literally Rein/Ana/Mercy/Winston. I was doing so well as Winston too :(

DPS Mercy so good. Only when I am her and we have a second healer though. Had a Mystery Heroes game a day or two ago with Zea and Mac. Got gold objective kills as Mercy oh yes. I usually get a decent amount of eliminations with her even if I'm not healing 14k damage. When I'm on my own I'm better off switching to her pistol to save myself because my allies sure can't do the job.

Anyways I've used him enough for now post-damage megaton nerf to put Roadhog in this AMAZING group of characters I don't really want with me.

DPS only Ana/Mercy/Zen
Speed Boost only Lucio when there's no other healer.
DPS only Reinhardt
Troll teleporter Sym
Troll Mei
Widowmaker (lets be real 99% of the console ones are bad)
Hanzo (he's not too bad, but I get stuck with a lot of not good ones)
Roadhog :(
People who aren't even trying to play aka just emoting, killing themselves, etc.

Pretty high since I'm whatever level 4 silver stars is. I'm 11 levels away from 5 silver stars I think

Like an average of 70 per character aside from Orisa at 54/65 and Doomfist at 40/57. Almost everything I'm missing is epic or legendary level.

I'm having a problem with the highlight record

its not so much an ACTUAL problem, but there was one video i recorded where I specially did it because the ragdoll death I had was funny cause I got launched into the air


but when I record it, SOMEHOW tones the corpse down and he just falls over in the final product

no matter how many times I watch the highlight, he always gets launched. So I don't know whats going on

If you record a video in a lesser quality, like 720 as opposed to 4k, then it'll not only keep the ragdoll physics, but AMPLIFIES them

He now flies farther than he did in the actual real match!

Man, I just hear about how much Roadhog got gutted and I feel bad.

I don't think there's ever been a moment playing this game that I got hooked by Roadhog that I feel like it was unfair, especially after the first nerf to his hook. You just have to learn to play around it, just like how you do with literally every character in the game.

Admittedly I haven't played in a while, but this just seems to be a reaction from people whining about being hooked and killed immediately. Roadhog has plenty of counters, and I just don't understand why they needed to change him when he fills such a specific and unique role.
