It depends on cost of living. That would be difficult in somewhere really expensive like NYC or SF. Other places, that can be comfortable depending on your standards/goals, but it's still below the median salary.

It's considered a part of middle class in all 50 states, as a single individual.

Find a partner with the same hourly rate, and together you two will gross almost 80k per year---which is definitely solid middle class and higher than the national average for a family.

Obviously cheaper states will take that salary much further.
