I Was Offered: Priest/Warrior/Hunter
I Picked: Hunter


The Draft: Got Corpse Widow and N'Zoth as my synergy picks. N'Zoth is actually fairly low rated but presuming that I picked him up early I can build up the synergy as I go. That's right, we're doing N'Zoth Hunter in Arena. Oh Yes. Got some quality cards, maybe a few that are a bit too heavy overall. Had to choose between Scavenging Hyena and Bonemare at one point which I really did not want to have to do. I wanted both. This was not the first or the last time I was forced to choose between multiple really good cards. Ended up with overall high deck quality but I am starting to regret the fact that I passed on Kill Command at one point. I think the lack of reach might really hurt me with this deck.

Game 1: Vs Druid. I went First. Bad opening hand, still bad even after the mulligan. Great start to this arena run already, I can tell. My opponent had a strong opener. Argh. I did manage to draw a few cards in the midgame but I was so far behind on board already without any way to regain stability. Spiked Hogrider directly into my turn 5 taunt. Argh. He has Sea Giant on turn 6, and gets Faceless Shambler onto it for two 8/8s on the following turn. Well I can take solace in knowing that even if I had drawn well there was no way I was winning this game. Loss.

Game 2: Vs Paladin. I went Second. Once again I have no opener and my opponent has a great turn 1 play. So this run is really going to start off at 0-2 just like that, huh. Lol. Managed to fight for the board by coining out eaglehorn bow. But he is still ahead. He has had control of the board the entire game and has been going face the entire time. My health total is not looking great. He floods his board and then plays Sunkeeper Tarim on turn 7. And he had additional cards with Charge for reach on the following turn. I guess I can take solace in the fact that I just would not have won this game anyway????? Getting pretty old already. Loss.

Game 3: Vs Hunter. I went First. Okay opener. My first opponent to NOT have a turn 1 play. I got my +2/+2 buff from Shaky Zipgunner onto Saronite Chain Gang which was huge. Aside from that I just managed to destroy the opponent with my superior midgame. Keeping in mind that this is a fairly insane deck with a ton of powerful cards, including two Bonemares, and I somehow just lost two games immediately due to insanely bad match up luck. Win.

I built an Elemental Rogue since I had the quest. It's actually pretty good! Decided to craft Keleseth simply because the decks he's built around seem super fun (Elemental Rogue, Handbuff Paladin, Midrange Zoo). I have no regrets

Game 4: Vs Mage. I went First. Good opener. Started with Alley Cat. He responds with Ice Walker. I play a trap on 2. I play Mindbreaker on 3 to disable his annoying as fuck hero power. Saronite Chain Gang on 4 to secure the board. He has some kind of secret up. It's not based on attacking him or playing minions so it must be a spell interaction or ice block. He has damage from hand to help fight for the board... as well as Book Wyrm with literally a dragon activator in hand. He plays Kazakus on 9 but at this point his health is literally 2. And I have three huge minions on the board. Win.

Game 5: Vs Mage. I went First. Good opener again. Alley Cat into Snake Trap. Again. I have no turn 3 play unfortunately. And a really weak turn 4 play. And a really weak turn 5 play. And he's already generating insane value from elemental synergy. Hmm where have I seen this before? He literally plays an elemental or elemental synergy card every turn from 2 to 5. His hand is almost twice the size of mine. Mage. In. Arena. Bonemare on Turn 7 saves me from being cornered into a totally hopeless situation. Frost Nova created by Shimmering Tempest. Blizzard created by Babbling Book. Mage. In. Arena. Servant of Yogg-Saron turns my 10 attack minion into a 1 attack minion by casting Humility with six other minions on the board. Ben Brode can eat a fucking dick. This is ridiculous. My midgame is so powerful that I'm still fully controlling the board even after all of this bullshit. So just imagine how ridiculously stupid it is that the difference in our deck qualities can still be bridged by him getting insanely lucky RNG outcomes off of three consecutive cards. I still won in the end, but this is just like the match in my previous game where it's so full of bullshit that I couldn't even enjoy it. Win.

Game 6: Vs Shaman. I went First. Had Alley Cat, no great turn 2 or 3 plays at first. Was hoping to draw into one (since, you know, this is where the majority of my curve is), but ended up drawing my heaviest cards instead. He gets Bloodsail Raider, with a weapon equipped of course. Deathspeaker to give it immunity so it can trade up the following turn without even dying. Stormcrack for additional damage from hand to control the board. Charge cards from hand for additional reach to prevent me from even getting one minion to maybe possibly stick for even a full turn. Sometimes you wonder how people like this even get to 3-2 but then I remember that I'm here too and the answer is just the insane deck variance right now. He has an Earth Elemental followed by a 4 mana 7/7 to fully cement his advantage on the board. I can't even play my Freezing Trap to slow him down because there's still a 2/2 sitting on his side that he could run into it. On the turn I manage to finally put up a big taunt, he topdecks Necrotic Geist and trades all of his minions in to replace them with 2/2s. Oh, also, he was holding Bloodlust. I guess I can take solace in the fact that I just would not have won anyway even if I had a better draw. Loss.

Final Result: 3-3

Honestly starting runs at 0-2 because of the shitty high deck variance right now is incredibly frustrating. I can deal with a bullshit loss at game 6, but not when it's my very last game because I started the run down 2 and I can't even get unlucky a singly time without the run just ending. I'm tired of facing super powerful decks randomly at 0-0 and even moreso at times when I should be facing low power decks because of a low W;L ratio. Most of all, Mages and Priests are super annoying to play against right now. Even when you beat them it's just not fun, and when you lose it's even worse. Couple this with my synergy pool complaints and I just don't know man. There's a lot of good things about this arena meta but a few things that are so bad that they are very quickly ruining the entire experience. And these are things that could EASILY be fixed but blizzard just won't do it.

This was NOT a 3-3 deck. And don't get me wrong, I've had plenty of decks that went 7-3 or 10-3 lately that absolutely did not deserve it either. Basically what I'm saying is that the more I play in this meta the more I'm starting to realize it's coming down to luck more than EVER before. Even though there's the illusion of your skill mattering. It really, really, does not. Not in a macro sense, anyway.

You're too afraid to use the bow to kill minions and take the board, not to mention suiciding your rhino and not attacking with a hasted hyena <_<

Not that I don't misplay for days, no worries, but taking face damage to kill a minion isn't something to be scared of. I've had games where I go to 1 intentionally and still win because they have no board.

Hilarious play I made yesterday: Priest plays Yshaarj, I play Frostmourne, take 10 to kill Yshaarj, then play Win Axe. I now have an Yshaarj and Priest just quits on the spot because he has no kill spells.

So here's my issue.

Control Pally is typically a REALLY expensive deck. Because it has a ton of legendaries. However, the game has, since I started playing again a few weeks ago, given me Tirion, DK Uther, Ragnaros LL.

Lich King and Black Knight fit into many decks, and Tarim seems to be almost necessary. Are there appropriate substitutions for Auctionmaster Beardo and Wickerflame? I'd love to have my first standard Pally deck ever, but it's always been so expensive.

Tarim is pretty necessary

You don't need Beardo because OTK isn't super key to winning most matchups but Wickerflame/Corpsetaker is really good for a mid game since you aren't running Murlocs.

I freed from amber (first time ever playing the card) an Obsidian Statue, then after it died I Tomb Lurker'd it back into my hand.

Then I bonemare'd it.

I think I'll call it a day at Warrior. Haven't tried Rogue but 7/9 and 8/9 are the same thing and I don't see myself beating him with Warrior with the cards available to me.

Warrior was tricky but I think I did it something like

-Brawl on Frostmorne phase
-Public Defender and whatever other tanks (preferably low damage or 0 damage ones so the remaining minion doesn't kill itself and lead to next phase)
-KZ
-Faceless manipulator KZ
-Whatever other tanks / minions you want out
-Two armorsmiths
-Keep your KZ's alive / protected with its ability (just have to be careful of the odd obliterate, blizzard, shatter combo which he did to take out both my KZs but by that point his deck was basically gone and I was sitting on 60 armor and controlling most of the board)

then from there you can toss in the exploding ghoul and razor edge sword thing for heaps and heaps of armor

You can still do it with only one Brawl and one Scaled Nightmare, you just need to draw well.

When you have Public Defender and KT up, they won't kill Public Defender, so you just sit there and let the Scaled Nightmare's attack keep doubling till you can one shot him. Having 2 is just faster.

I just had a really stupid arena game as priest v priest. My hand to start was a bunch of stuff I couldn't play...bonemare, potion of madness, binding heal, power word: shield, free from amber, etc. Finally on 5 I drew a mind games, played that and got a freaking emerald hive queen. >_>

I didn't have Scaled Nightmare, so I tried doing the KT strategy earlier today and just ran Naxshades and Frothings who slowly got bigger from the opposing minion running into the taunt. Ran out of power before I could kill him from Obliterates, Blizzard and taunt stalling. Then tried with Cobalt Scalebanes, which would have given me the power to kill him if they would stop buffing the taunt so he could run his minion into it and kill it.

If I go back to beat him, it's probably going to be with that stupid ass Alarm-o-Bot deck I tried. I've been unlucky with it so far but it seems like RNG should eventually give me a win with it.

I haven't even bothered to think about a Rogue strategy yet.

I'm missing half the murlocs. I pulled it off in Shaman thanks to Bloodlust and Everyfin but it's not really a possibility for me with any of the other classes.

I was thinking Rogue was the opposite of Hunter where you took damage for spells, not actual spell removal. That should make it a lot easier since it's one of the deck thinning challenges. Since that's the case, honestly I don't even know if it needs a special deck or if I can just put a good solid deck together and win with it.
