Yeah the tv series was far from garbage and was actually one of the best animes to come out in recent years (those who say otherwise, I'd like for them to state specifics). The problem with it is that it's not strong as a weekly anime. You have to watch all of them at once. There's so much non-sequitur, but it's supposed to depict the nonsensical, fun nature of magic so that the true purpose of the world changing magic doesn't come out of nowhere. So people who watched it weekly expecting the story to constantly continue usually tend to not like this as much as people who watch the series all at once like a long movie

it was a mix between bad episodics and some over arching plot where it accomplished neither and did whatever it wanted every week resulting in a bad hanna-barbera cartoon

I think the netflix model is changing how we view tv series, just like music streaming has changed how we view albums. It doesn't really matter anymore if a show delivers on a weekly basis, so long as it contributes to the season.

It is basically another form of Harry Potter, which definitely has universal appeal.

My wife runs a small youtube page and on a podcast where I get to co-host with her, we were discussing anime that could be used to initiate people into the medium. Little Witch Academia is perfect for that.

I think the ability to initiate people into a whole world of media is powerful thing. Especially when it's an anime that creates its own world rather than rely on the audience's preconceived knowledge of the Japanese culture.

Like I'd almost never recommend Rakugo Shinju to anybody, but I'd say it's up there in terms of storytelling, technically.

You entire argument is based on the erroneous idea that someone 1) needs to have seen X amount of anime to have a valid opinion, and 2) someone could only have seen X amount of anime to enjoy this show.

Neither is true, btw. I've seen literally hundreds of anime. I still enjoyed this. It is terrific in its own right. The examples you gave as counterpoints aren't even relevant. Someone who has never seen anime before would never get Konosuba, for example. Different market entirely.

K-ON is Seinen, along with almost every "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" anime/manga

I'm glad I watched the TV series before the OVA. Because the OVAs were leagues above the TV series, it's like night and day. Trigger seemed like they bit too much to chew going for a 25 episode season. They had a really difficult time coming up with good scenarios because too many episodes came off as just decent or acceptable but otherwise forgettable.

I was using it to describe the element as shit. Like for example, "melodrama shit" or "edgy shit". There are certainly shows that put an emphasis on melodrama or being edgy that are decent or well written in their own right but when you use it like that you're just condemning the element, not the show itself. Ecchi and harem as a whole are shit and are only appreciated by horny weebs, even if there are individual shows that are exceptions and break out of the construct.
So that's why recommending those shows to non-weebs or even other weebs who dislike the typical otaku pandering or aren't looking for a deeding session is pretty ridiculous.

...However, neither Konosuba and especially keijo are THAT exceptionally well written anyway to justify people who aren't interested in gross harem and ecchiness to put up with them so your post was stupid from the start.
Something like No Game No Life may have interesting enough elements that can justify a non-harem/ecchi fan to watch despite being filled with perviness and fetish elements but Keijo absolutely doesn't and Konosuba is arguable.

No Game No Life ejaculates wish fulfillment self-inserts in a lazy hikkikomori with far too many social issues to be able to do even 1% of what he does, who's capable of deciphering a language in like a few hours or is pretty much incapable of losing these ridiculous games that suffer from convenient imbalance and unbelievable coincidences that only serves as a set up for the MC and his team's surefire win. It can hardly be considered a good work, and it's something impossible to suggest to people not into little girls. But its usage of color is chic and quite special, and some may appreciate that.

Instead of NGNL, I'd recommend something like Kaiji. Far more interesting, far more grounded in reality, but it's written in a wildly clever and dramatic way that no matter who you are, you'll find it enjoyable in a profound way. I have nothing against fantasy, since I say Little Witch Academia is so good, but the story's job is to convince and instill emotion first and foremost.

Yeah I'd have a hard time recommending Keijo, but it actually takes its material so seriously and is written like a classic exaggerative sports anime that it's almost worth watching. Not to mention when they keep talking about career ending injuries in the boobs and butt, it doesn't feel like fan service and instead like they're actual athletes whose livelihood depend largely on their body. It's not the worst sports anime is what I'm saying I guess :P

Konosuba's comedic timings and various jokes do mostly work on people already familiar with the genre and the Japanese culture, though an anime fan friend of mine really really hates this show lmao. But I have also seen some people who don't watch much anime find it really funny. I attribute it to the excellent voice work honestly. The guy who does Kazuma does one hell of a job adlibbing and adding a lot of personality to the jokes.
