Well, this is in my lab, but same sort of scenario.

I know my lab instructor is gonna give me a lecture tomorrow. What can I do except say I'm sorry and promise not to make the same mistake again? It seems insufficient =/

Understand what lead to the mistake and have a tangible plan of how to reduce future mistakes.

My old boss was the nicest dude ever. Any mistakes had to be reported to him, but he never made a huge deal out of it even when it was an expensive mistake. He'd just give us his 5 cents to prevent the same problem happening and had us try again.
