Chapter 4...

I'm going to miss Gundham. They were a interesting, entertaining character. And the reasons they became the murderer was... hrm. He and Neko apparently agreed to fight to the death. And it was so the rest of the students wouldn't starve to death waiting for someone to get killed. He essentially sacrificed himself, even if his persona would never allow him to admit that openly. I wasn't expecting that from Gundham, and I admit I didn't quite know how to feel about all of this. His execution was sad, yet sweet. I wonder if the animals that pick him up(or his soul rather) were past pets of his? Either way, I hope his Four Dark Devas of Destruction find a new home. Maybe with Sonia?

Rest in Peace Gundham Tanaka. You're probably the best guy in this game.

Nagito was... less annoying this chapter.

Oh hey, looks like the streamer is playing today(Not sure if he's going to have time to do the entire chapter, or if he's going to stop at the beginning of the trial).

Clockmaru is adorable

My guess for the traitor is Chikai. It's not a strong feeling, but I believe this character was acting a bit oddly during the previous chapter. Alternatively it could be Monomi, but would that even count? >_>

Nagito has gone full blown crazy now. Though his plan is at least interesting.

Akane almost made my dreams come true.

Kaz says exactly what I've been thinking.

"Dammit... why does he have to still be alive?"

Monomi.... says some really suggestive stuff. And apparently she has several spare bodies. Interesting. And disturbing.

Hrm. Perhaps my guess was wrong.

Also I'll admit that Nagito's little plan was clever.

A few characters have been acting suspiciously this chapter.

Kaziuchi was acting really suspect, starting to suspect them of being the traitor.

Sonia was also acting a bit strange. And somehow they saw through Nagito's plan.

Seriously though, a fake bomb threat. Man!

And then NAGITO FINALLY DIED! YESSSSS! AHAHHA! EAT IT!

*Ahem*

Something happened.

That's it for tonight. Investigation and trial will come later.

Akane offering to let Hijame cop a feel is not what I was expecting to happen. And then Sonia's comment right after.... What do you know of such things Sonia? >_>

"If you got penetrated by something so big and thick...." - Sonia

...

And Akane talking about "front tails" What the hell did your uncle do?

It appears Nagito's killer is... Nagito but Hijame thinks that's a bit too easy.

Second half of the trial focuses on the poison. And then it's revealed that there were poison in one of the fire grenades.

But someone doesn't believe it was really a suicide. And the true plan was revealed. Mainly that Nagito manipulated things so that someone would kill him... but no one, not even the killer, would know who did it.

I have to say, I didn't anticipate the trial going in this direction.

Wait- closing trial already?! This isn't seriously going to go down to guessing who threw the poisoned grenade, is it?

And in other news, the traitor is Chikai. I called it ever since chapter...4? Which one was everyone in the funhouse? They were acting oddly then. Not wanting to talk, saying they had to think about "something". Perhaps that was her thinking about confessing?

But wait, someone is objecting to all of this. Monomi?

"Hijame, you stupidface!"

Sonia also really doesn't want to believe it. I can't say I blame them. It would be easy if the traitor was a less pleasant character.

"You guys don't have to stay alive by doubting someone. You can stay in alive by believing me."

Man....

This trial took me for a loop. First half looked like it was going to be ruled as a suicide. Of course it was too early for that to really be the case. And then it was revealed that Nagito set things up so that the killer wouldn't be known. And then finally it was revealed that Chikai was the traitor, and also technically the killer I suppose.

And then MONOMI VS MONOKUMA!

But then after she self destructs on Monokuma twice, Monokuma reveals there's 10^60 more of him. WELP!

As Chiaki and Monomi say their goodbyes, there's still a lot of unanswered questions. What exactly is the Future Foundation? Why was the traitor sent to the island in the first place? Was there something physically preventing them from reveling themselves sooner? If so, what made them able to essentially reveal themselves then?

"A shining future will always be waiting for you."

Lol, stream started earlier than expected.

Apparently Alter Ego has appeared, holy shit!

Monokuma talks about a graduation program to the remaining students. But that's the catch?

Looks like there's another trial. Or an exam really. Apparently about the outside world.

Looks like they're in a virtual world all along.

"If this is a game, are you saying my words are being displayed in a text window right now?"
Ahahahaha.

Cause it's a game.

Just like in the first game their school memories were removed Wait, is that really a spoiler at this point? The dead students get brought up, It's suggested(Sonia I believe?) that if this is all a game, then maybe the people who "died" are actually alive. Monokuma however says that anyone who died in the game died in reality. Not completely, but "empty husk" isn't exactly living.

He also suggests that the Future Foundation is responsible for all of this. But that sounds like a lie.

Also 8bit theme. <3

Monomi... Apparently she's an NPC, an observer designed to watch over the 15 students. The second observer is Chiaki. So.... holy shit Chiaki was an NPC?! Wait no, Hijame thinks she was really alive. Hijame demands Monokuma to reveal his true self... but then the main cast arrives, who is apparently a member of World Ender.

FUCKING MOKOTO?!

Yes, apparently he's a member of Future Foundation now. But Hijame thinks he's acting a bit off. As if he's being wary of them. Then a bombshell was dropped. Not only are Hijame and friends the survivors, but all of them are also Remnants of Despair. People carrying out Junko's will even after her death. So all this time they were part of Ultimate Despair?

Yeah 90% of my posts are going to be spoiler blanked >_>

Makoto suggests Nagito did what he did because of figuring this out earlier. But why does Makoto know all of this? And that's why Nagito tried to get all of the students killed in one fell swoop in Trial 5.

Maybe that's why Nagito have fans?

Turns out Junko heavily influenced all of them, which caused them to become part of Ultimate Despair. And apparently Nagito really did cut off his arm and transplant Junko's arm on him.
Some people starved themselves, other people gave up their own families, some slaughtered a bunch of people and tortured others to commit suicide. Some even tried to.... have children with Junko's dead body.
I think I threw up a little in my mouth.

Anyway, Makoto suggested that putting them on the island was all an attempt to remove Ultimate Despair from them. He says that graduating, The Hope Restoration program will be completed, and they'll be uploaded into their real bodies. But the people who died.... if their avatar is deleted, there's nothing that can be done.

So there's two choices Graduating means their school memories will be gone forever. The people who are dead are SoL. The alternative is to stay on the island. Hijame is curious why Monokoum doesn't seem very motivated to stop them or discourage them from graduating He's hesitant, Makoto is acting strange. He points out that for someone who claims it's foolish to defy Future Foundation... Makoto is defying them right now. Makoto was protecting the Remnants of Despair, also Makoto earlier claimed he wasn't so sure if the program was a good idea. Hijame doesn't think this is the real Makoto, Monokouma suddenly getting defensive only confirms this.

And indeed, Monokuma was just fucking with them this entire time.

And Monokuma shows us his true form.

"Make sure you burn this ginormous despair you're about to see into your memories!"

How the fuck is Junko alive?

Of course the first thing she talks about are the size of her tits.

Her personality is the same. Which is the say, all over the place.

"I got bored of being bored. Even when I'm dead I got bored."

Alter Ego Junko. Looks like she took a page out of Chihiro's book.

And of course she tampered with the Graduation Program.

Apparently she has a new Graduation Program in mind. And she.... revived all the dead players?

And the clockdown lock? That's how long it took for Junko to modify the program.

loljk

She was just seeing if she could get them to graduate before the timer ran out. There was no real reason behind it.

Hijame questions the benefit Junko gets if they leave the virtual world. She claims she just wants to be dramatic. Junko offers them a choice which appears to be a no brainer. ...Right?

I guess there's no choice but to press...

Makoto outta nowhere!

Makoto says this is just Junko's trap. And this looks like the real deal. Junko is *ahem* leaking.

"You always had so much reckless hope. I love you sooo much you disgust me."

Makoto claims Junko is lying about bringing their friends back. He claims her plan is to turn the Hope Restoration Program into the Despair Restoration Program. So the people who are "revived" won't be revived so much as she'll upload herself into their bodies. Truly reviving them is impossible. Though she says since everyone's program is uploaded into the system, she could convincingly enough imitate said students. She eggs Fuyuhiko by suggesting she can be a version of Peko even more... pleasing to him. He's not pleased at this suggestion.

It's asked why Junko didn't just kill everyone if her "Junko-y everyone" plan involved uploading her conscious into everyone. But Junko has to follow the rules just like everyone else. Apparently authority to add rules doesn't mean authority to delete rules.

The so called new Graduation Program was so she could take over their bodies. Thus the nature of the true Ultimate Despair.

2357 people all committed suicide because of Junko. That's terrifying.

Also terrifying is that to prevent Junko's claim to coming to fruition... they have to stay in the virtual world. Or... is there? Makoto claims there's a way to get out without letting Junko out. Makoto set up a secret shutdown command in case of emergency. Something not even Junko could stop.

Except Junko says the shutdown command can't be activated. There isn't enough people. Out of 15 people, over half of them have to hit both Graduate and Repeat at the same time. And it has to be different people. Even including Makoto.... that's not enough people.

Makoto hasn't given up of course. Because he believes in "them".

It's Kyoko! And Byakuya!

The latter who tells both Junko and Akane to shut up within a minute of showing up. With them that makes 8 people.

Junko starts crying

Makoto explains that everything will be deleted, including the student's own avatars. But Kyoko explains they'll return to their original selves before the program.

That mean's they'll

Wait no, not monocoins.

They'll revert back to Ultimate Despair. But perhaps they can still fight that. Makoto is sure they'll revert the brainwashing pretty quickly. Of course that'll mean they'll forget everything that happened on the island. Does that mean.... they'll forget about Chiaki? Someone who gave her life to protect them.

There's also the question... Why did they become Ultimate Despair in the first place?

Oh and the killing school trip wasn't just for "their sake". It was to lure a certain group of people. The Future Foundation of course. Thus the cameras.

Sonia: What should I do? I did a lot of.... disgraceful things in front of those cameras!

Byakuya: ...You certainly did.

...Tell me more!

Junko claims they choose to be instigators in this situation. And the Ultimate Despair set all of this up just to lure the Future Foundation in. For what value her words are worth. Also passing the graduation requires one more requirement. The teacher, Junko of course, needs to give the final say so.

So oops! Junko doesn't have to allowed the Future Foundation members to graduate. And it looks like Junko's words are starting to get to the Ultimate Despair members.

Wait wait wait... Junko is talking about the "mastermind"? That's not her?

She brings up the name... Izuru Kamaukura

As for who he is? Well the academy hid his existence. Apparently he's that student ended up killing 13 students. He's responsible for the Biggest Most Awful Event ™ And that student.

IS FUCKING HIJAME HINATA?!

But it's a bit confusing so she explains it in a simpler way.

You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura You're Izuru Kamukura

This... this is bullshit right? This isn't coming from a trustworthy source.

Sonia: I don't want any more last minute plot twists!

You're in the wrong fucking game series...

Well Hijame is apparently Ultimate Hope. But isn't that Makoto's Ultimate? Well granted he was the Ultimate (Un)Lucky student, but Nagito shared that Ultimate as well and Makoto kind of got a different one during the end...

Anyway, there's this Hope Cultivation Plan. A break thru plan to cultivate Ultimate talents. The Reserve Course Dropouts were used as labrats. After all, the plan requires using people who were lacking in talent. Hijame was selected, because he admired the Hope Peak Academy so much. Or at least that's what Junko says. They messed with his brain brain and turned him into Izuru, who specialized in.... talent. Junko turned him into Ultimate Despair just by breaking his spirit, but claims that's nothing compared to what those scientists did to him.

So "Hijame" doesn't really have a memory. Junko is surprised he exists at all in this program, suggesting he was lurking in the deepest crevice of Izuru's mind. And that if they leave the program they're in, Hijame will essentially be erased. He'll disappear. This revelation sets off another memory.

It looks like he remembered his real self. Talking to Nagito on a train? And it turns out he uploaded Junko into the Neo World Program.

Of course Hijame can be "saved" if he choose to graduate.

It appears Hijame is feeling true despair right now. The old school cast tells everyone there's no reason to believe anything Junko says. The Biggest Most Tragic Most Awful event is... apparently starting to calm down. But if Junko gets out...

It seems like Hijame is unable to decide. And yeah, Hijame is losing is big time.

"Hope. Despair. Choose whatever you want. It's not my decision at all!"

Junko seems fine with... making a compromise. A futurelss future.

Everyone is alive once again, again. No one had to be forgotten. Junko is gone. Everyone is happy. Something seems off but... maybe there's no need to think about it.

But wait, why is Chiaki here? A neverending game loop? This can't be right. Hijame talks to Chiaki about all the shit that just got dropped on him.

"Even if I cease to 'exist' Even if no one remembers me again, that doesn't mean I'll just disappear. As long as everyone moves forward, I'll never truly disappear".

(Or something like that. I can't type the exact sentence so quickly.)

Chiaki gives Hijame a pep talk he desperately needed.

"If you can't choose either future, why don't you just create one?"

"I guess what I'm trying to say is... if you just do it, things will turn out okay!

And then things get freaky crazy.

Hijame is surrounded by... Hijames. Or rather a bunch of his Ultimate Despair selves. He opts to create the future.

Even so...!

Hijame fights to wake up, recovers from his despair. He's also a super sayian apparently. And the Future bullet shoots down every statement. EVERY statement. With Hijame's renewed spirit, everyone decides to go with the shutdown plan. Junko's panicking is great as always.

And Monomi appears! Or should I say Usami? And she battles the Giant Junko, and wins! That makes 1 win out of.... um.... 99 losses?

And so the world starts falling apart. People say their goodbyes. Hijame finally remembers to say one thing to Chiaki. "Thank you". It seems like she hears him.

The old school cast talk to each other for a bit. All of them are in snazzy suits. Kyoko looks especially good. And Byakuya is wearing something he normally doesn't wear. A smile. They're confident that the Ultimate Despairs won't revert back. They're already showing hopeful emotions after all.

Oh and not bothering to use spoiler tags at this point so.....

Males

Gundham > Hajime > Fuyuhiko > Nekomaru > Nagito > Kazuichi

Gundham was fucking amazing throughout the entire game. Easily my favorite male character. Hell even his freaking execution was great. What can I say? I love the overly dramatic characters. And even outside his hammy moments he was surprisingly deep.

Hajime turned into a very interesting character at the end. I was wondering what his Ultimate ability was.... and then it turned out he had none. Not only that but dude was literally behind this whole mess all along? Well, not that he knew about it at the time. It's pretty insane to think that you were technically playing the antagonist all along. Though of course he made his own decision to defy the person he once was.

Fuyuhiko was surprising to me. At first I thought he was going to be like Genocide Jill in the first game. Clearly dangerous, but a red herring. Like "Of COURSE the mafia member would be okay with murder." Except that never happens. I was absolutely not expecting him to attempt seppuku in front of the class in chapter 3(was it?) either. He turned out to be far more concerned about the lives of his classmates than expected. Also oddly against them getting it on if his snapping at Hajime and Mikan is any indication(misunderstanding as that was). I admit he grew on me.

Nekomaru. Honestly there isn't too much to say about him. I feel like most of the interesting stuff that happened to him was when he "died", and when he died. Prior he was just a dude that shouts a lot and a weird obsession with shit. Literally. But jumping in front of a bazooka shot to save Akane was pretty awesome. And his mutual death pact with Gundham was pretty neat as well. It's a shame that happened so soon though because I think I liked him more as a robot.

Cute clock though.

Nagito. I.... yeah, at first I didn't like this character. At all. He was annoying, preachy, and basically tried to get everyone killed. Later on he was... still annoying. But he started to show a more cunning side to him. And even I can't deny that his plan in chapter 5 was pretty damn impressive. I mean, putting the class in a nigh hopeless situation where they'd have no other choice but to guess who killed him? Because even the killer wouldn't know they did it? And later in the game it's revealed he found out that they were all Ultimate Despairs, so this was his way of trying to kill Despair.

Well done Nagito. Fuck you, but well done.

And lastly...Kazuichi. I... honestly don't know what happened to this guy Early on he was fine enough. Chapter 2 when he dragged Hajime along to try to peak at the girls in swimsuits, he made for a comedy bro type character that was likable. Then later on it just seemed like he.... stopped developing? I don't know. It seemed like he was just there towards the end. I honestly can't remember much of anything he did besides lick Sonia's boot. Maybe you really need to fill out his Hope Crystal to see the best side of him. But ultimately he just felt bland.

OH and Teruteru died too early for me to really get to know much of anything about him. Eh, he was a pervert? I suppose he's sympathetic in the sense he just wanted to see his mama again and right before he died he realized that he had gone crazy.

"I'm sorry... everyone...
I didn't want to sacrifice anyone. I just... had to do something...
And yet... I ended up killing Byakuya instead of Nagito...
Oh. I see.
It's me... I'm the one who went crazy."

One thing though.... We never really got to learn much about the Ultimate Imposter, did we?
