in seriousness though, someone who's clearly not an amateur i guess (weird body proportions, poorly defined faces, or some other apparent flaw that's immediately noticeable in a piece, etc.). i would expect to pay $25 minimum and that is usually if their style is more cartoonish/distinctive. otherwise would probably expect to pay upwards of $35 at least so someone who feels comfortable charging that much for their work. obviously these aren't super strict descriptions and i'm not expecting any super professionals though.

if anybody's had positive past experiences with an artist, i'd like to take a look at them too.

you can find really cheap, desperate artists on deviant art who are very good and should be charging way more than they do. it takes a few minutes of looking through crap but in my experience this has always been the way to go when needing a limited number of cheap assets.

Kate, if you want it cheap I can hook you up with Indonesian artists who should be cheaper due to Rupiah <-> Dollar rates. Just transfer the money to my PayPal. There are some that are just as good as any artist on the internet!
