RE4 is a flawed game.

Why everyone thinks it's so great is beyond me. The game is full of broken mechanics you can abuse to make it a walk in the park even in the hardest mode.

The enemies run towards you and stop right before reaching you and then they walk slowly giving you enough time to do anything....the A.I. is a joke. "Hey guys there's a ton Ganados coming after me. I'll just shoot one guy in the face and then do a devastating AoE roundhouse kick that will knock everyone away from me(while making me invulnerable). While they're taking their slow ass time to get back up I think I'll seal their fate with my knife"

Not being able to change your weapons in real time is also terrible even for its time several games allowed you to do this....go watch a YouTube of mercenary mode the ones with high scores and I guarantee you they pause more than 20 times.

The knife and pistol is already one of the most powerful weapons in the game. In fact you could clear most of the game with just these two weapons. And because you're not using your other weapons and ammo (because you're lol pwning with the knife) you can then sell your access ammo and other weapons and buy even stronger weapons to literally blow through the bosses.

Let's not forget that if they somehow manage to grab you, it's insanely easy to get out of it and even kill them by kicking their head to explosion, and if you ever think you can get close to me then say hello to my grenades or shotgun lol.

Don't get me wrong guys. I don't hate the game and I certainly enjoyed playing it. I just think it's highly overrated and doesn't deserve the praise you Internet nerds give it.

Yes, it's still just as good today as when it was released. There's a reason why RE5 was made to be a near carbon copy of it mechanics wise (aside from the partner thing)

I started playing this again for the first time in years and man, it's pretty good. One thing I love is the freedom of movement the characters have.

I think it is. It has some mechanics that may look outdated now though. I personally don't mind not being able to shoot and walk at the same time for this kind of games.

i honestly think RE4 is one of the best games ever made.

it has its flaws and some parts of it feel pretty dated, but the pacing, tension, atmosphere, level design, etc are still top notch. it's kind of hard to put into words why it works, i think it is just a case where all the design elements of the game worked so well together.

RE4 is one of those games where i played it and realized there was not a single part of the game that i did not enjoy, and I felt like everything was laid out the way it was very specifically. RE4 gets intense when it needs to be and dials down when it doesn't. Save spots feel evenly spread out. Bosses are always foreshadowed in an exciting way. New mechanics are introduced organically (such as the regenerators). That kind of thing. there is also some really stupid dialogue that never fails to make me laugh.

overall a 10/10 game IMO

Fantastic for its time and obvious just how it influenced gaming since its inception, in particular the 3rd person over the shoulder camera.

Definitely one of those games that shows its age however.

Still holds up, though I think the Wiimote controls made it more fun for me. Whether you think its the BEST GAME EVER or not is up to you. Just remember that every game can be shown to be deeply flawed where analyzed down, which happens to every notable game.

I don't like comparing it to the previous REs because they're radically different. It's like asking if Final Fantasy 6 is better than Super Mario Brothers 3.

Its one of the best games i have ever played. Its a bit dated in some mechanics, but it has a lot of good moments, and good bosses. It gives too much health stuff at the end though. I had to always sell some herbs to make room.
