people love to shit all over the characters because they are all carbon copies of each other but with different accents and verbal ticks. But that's basically how 90% of all JRPG dialogue works anyway.

The cool thing about chrono cross is that every character has one or two lines that are specific to that character, that you usually only see if you bring them with for 100% of the adventure. and the brief moment of lucidity for that character is worth so much more in the context in which its presented.

Plus the characters get cool unique special attacks which I would take over good dialogue anyway.

I mean I object to the idea that the characters are good more than the music thing

the soundtrack IS kinda overrated if you look beyond the handful of excellent songs but the excellent songs help carry it over the rest of it

a lot of the cast was unmemorable, but there were enough good characters (Kid, Karsh, Starky) that I didn't mind the rest

but also, Scars of Time and Another World are among the all-time greats

I think the soundtrack is mostly excellent, but I don't return to it quite as often as Uematsu stuff. And there are more meh ones than most admit.

And the characters are cool but it's the plot and story that carries it for me. And the gameplay and graphics of course.

I've spent the last four years working on my top 100 video game songs list. While I did ultimately choose to limit it to 2 songs per game, both CC and CT hit the list twice. Before I had that limit, they each had three. I feel that CC has more high end songs, but CT is the better soundtrack overall top to bottom. I would without much hesitation put CC my top 10, though I can agree it may be 'overrated' in the same way that FF7 and OoT are often are (great, but do not live up to the hype in they do/did have)

I'm all for listening to arguments about the soundtrack being overrated.

There's no defense of these characters though, other than like 8 at most.

Which is why my dream game has always been a remake of CC with a stronger narrative centered around Serge, Kid, Another World Leena, Glenn, Karsh, Fargo, Norris, and Riddell, with a brief period of the game featuring Lynx, Harle, and Spriggan. Add more double and triple techs. Boom, perfect. (Also take out that part about Lucca and the original cast getting murdered
