The problem with Anita Sarkeesian is that she doesn't play video games, yet she wants to change them, which will negatively effect those of us who do play them.

It's interesting in the sense that there is a problem when it comes to the depiction, inclusion, and treatment of women in and around videogames.

The problem is, she has no idea WTF she is talking about and is basically making everything worse.

It's weird how times have changed. Back then the arguments were all about giving freedom to developers. They should be able to do what they want and not be criticized.

Now that group is all about criticizing games for being SJW, having an agenda, being anti-Trump etc.

It was a simpler time lol.

If people don't like specific games, they don't need to buy them.

Sure. But people do have the right to criticize games as well. It's fine. Discussions are normal and you don't have to agree with everyone else.

It's fine in theory, but she believes games she doesn't hold up to her standards should be modified or not sold.

I'm still salty about how she portrayed Hitman as a game that rewarded you for killing strippers or whatever when it was literally the exact opposite being shown in the footage she used. I don't disagree with re-examining how tropes in games are used, but she had enough issues in her videos that her credibility was just completely shot.

As far as what games "should" be made, it's whatever the hell people feel like. I'm the sort of person that doesn't mind trans people or minorities or whatever the fuck people consider SJW in games and I also play stuff like Senran Kagura.

If Senran Kagura, Gal*Gun, various eroge like Nekopara, and all those ecchi dungeon crawlers can release in the west, there is zero reason for them to be unable to release DOAX3. Don't believe that bullshit narrative that Play-Asia and KT tried to spin about SJWs somehow preventing them from putting it out. It was their own business decision and it's downright cowardly for them to try and pin it on anyone else.

That's a 20 minute video and most of it is some guy whining. The first minute didn't have her saying anything of the kind so please at least tell us where in the video she said this.

All I see is her saying "we should have more unsexy women in games because sexy game heroes are cliche" which is totally different from calling for an all-out ban of something. Saying "I hope I never see ___ again because I'm sick of it" is completely different from censoring or trying to ban it.

The closest I am aware of is some article on Kotaku about a list of changes she'd like to see made to games in general. From 2015.

Don't design such sexy female characters, don't include scenes of violence against female characters in which they are treated as helpless, design female characters to be less traditionally feminine, half of playable characters (preferably more) should be female, change how female characters are animated, change how female characters sound in combat (some nonsense about orgasmic grunts), don't include sexualized elements with violence, etc.

Beyond that, it's mostly implied by talking about games having a problem (I think pernicious is the word she used) with the depiction of women. And activists don't tend to talk about problems they don't want fixed. That isn't the same as "games that I don't like shouldn't be sold", but I do get a "games shouldn't include content we think is problematic" vibe from her.

As a woman I don't have a problem with current video games. I don't feel exploited, disrespected or victimized by any video games.
I honestly don't buy into SJW or feminist rhetoric.

She seems to want to replace current games with ones she deems more respectful to women.
