Ahhhh that would make sense, I thought there was a forced split rule. You're right, wikipedia says the rule is max of 6 through leg 10.

It's funny, looking back at season 5, when the splits were 10-1, 10-1 and 9-1... geez.

It's always been 6 or 7 per person in total across a 12-leg race since the rule was instituted in season 6 (solely because of what you mention with [this spoils two teams that make it far] Chip and Colin doing almost all of them). That's the one and only problem with the masterpiece that is TAR5.

3 is actually REALLY good aside from them. They just dragged the season down so much. And tbqh I don't known how much of that hate is just retrospect. I feel like I'd appreciate them on a rewatch.

7 is a bad season by the way. Alex & Lynn are so unbearable and obnoxiously self-righteous. Ray & Deanna are like a diet Jonathan & Victoria. Ron & Kelly are terrible. Susan & Patrick are annoying as fuck. I liked Uchenna & Joyce in my first watchthrough but going back and knowing how awful they are IRL I'd probably dislike them. A few of the early boot teams were not bad but they were just that - early boots. That leaves Rob & Amber, Meredith & Gretchen, and Brian & Greg as the only likable teams past episode 3, and they aren't enough to save it.

They kept talking about how they wanted to use the million dollars to try to start a family either through medical procedures that would allow them to produce children together or adoption, but instead used it mostly for frivolous things, including a boob job for Joyce. They then said on All-Stars that their marriage was failing because they still couldn't start a family and they ended up getting divorced. They've done some significant charity work which redeems them a bit but the general consensus is they suck.

Plus, apparently that last minute suspense of them trying to beg for money for their cab only happened because they ran off, fully intended to stiff their awesome cab driver who got them the lead over Romber in the first place, and the producers had to tell them to go back and pay him.

Weren't they also involved in some scandal where they bet on themselves to win? Yeah, the cab thing... I thought that was created for drama. Guess they were just being jerks! (and they had a sizeable lead) And, uh, yeah, that does make it sound like they suck quite a bit.
