Im indecisive if I want a self-driving vehicle. I hate driving but at the same time, I might grow to miss it if I dont do it for too long.

Cars that are only self driving are bad

Something like a Tesla where it's only an option is good

The autonomous trip is being considered a success and Embark plans to have installed autonomous technology in 40 more tractor trailers by the end of 2018. However, despite the sudden influx in self-driving technology, Embark assures that the technology is not meant to take jobs away from truckers, only to increase productivity.

By allowing automation to work together with local drivers to handle less desirable long haul routes, we will be able to increase productivity to address the current 50,000 driver shortage while also creating new local driving jobs that attract younger drivers for the industry, Rodriguez said.

Do they really expect us to believe that once the tech is perfected they'll still keep a human in every truck? Or if they do keep paying what they pay now? What a crock of shit.

I don't even want a self-driving vehicle. I want someone else to own them so I don't have to spend countless Saturdays waiting for the mechanic and countless weekdays carpooling.

The car broka down? Call them and send another. Boom.

I can't wait for self driving trucks. Nothing is worse than an impatient 18 wheeler who tries to pass in the left lane, fucks up and gets stuck there for the next 50 miles, holding up traffic.

Progress happens. The people complaining about truckers losing their jobs, were the same types of people who were against railways becoming a thing, because "but what about the canal and river based shipping industry!"

Of course they were. It was against their interests. And where are they now? Freaking dead.

I just bought my first car, a really shoddy one too and I can't stand driving. I like this idea a lot.

i've seen a lot of speculation that ride sharing (Uber, etc) will eventually just be a fleet of autonomous vehicles

Reduced accidents, insurance rates, and fuel cost should trickle down.

That just goes back around the curve and brings us back to taxis.

Because driving a car is an enjoyable experience for me. My post was more as a response to the one I quoted, not a general statement that they're bad.

They're great for old or disabled people, or people that just simply hate driving, but I personally would never want a car that ONLY drives itself.
