Board 8 > So how did everyone here like Xenoblade Chronicles 2?

I have had it on the shelf for a while now and I was looking to start it soon.

I heard a lot of people complaining about the gameplay on the board for the game and that had me worried. This will be my first entry into the franchise.

I typically like JRPGs with the last one I really loved being Ni No Kuni.

Should I finally start it or sell it with the steelbook case?

Start it. If you care about being a completionist, there will be stuff that aggravates you (which is true for Ni no Kuni too lol), but the good far outweighs the bad.

I dunno, it didn't really feel like it was rushed. I assume it was just hurt by losing most of its UI time partway through development.

Unquestionably the worst xenoblade, but its still a great game. If you go into it prepared for the flaws, or without the expectations that came from the other two, youll have a good time with it. The crystal core opening is frustrating to the point of being game ruining if youre a completionist, but if you dont care about completing it its not even an issue.

I didn't get it. I heard there are gacha mechanics with the weapons and I would have been more interested in a direct sequel to the first game.

Quit halfway through chapter 4

It was decent. I might go back to it, but I felt like replaying P5 instead.

Played it for 197 hours doing everything

Chapter 4 is the low point of the game. The story picks up significantly after that.

Im in chapter 6 and havent touched it in weeks.

The writing has no subtlety, but then its a JRPG. It still bugs me though.

Its pretty good overall. Not great, but if you like JRPGs youll probably enjoy it.

It sounds like some of the good stuff from X1 but with a giant load of crap dumped onto it. Not sure if I would have the patience for it.

The gacha blade system is definitely bad though. And the UI. And sidequests are no better than before (bad).

Short answer: No it's just random in-game content

A bit more detailed answer: There *is* technically a one-time purchase that awards you some bonus cores from the season pass, after that it's impossible to purchase more.

But the cores from the season pass are no more likely to give you unique blades than the ones you normally obtain anyway.

if you don't sweat about getting cores until the end game it becomes extremely easy to farm them anyway, even the legendary ones

and honestly it doesn't give you much at all

like you'll be farming for a billion more than what they give you because the rates are so shit

and at least for the main game for 3 of your 5 characters all the best blades you can get for them come from the story and sidequests and not from cores so it's not like you'll have a bad team without them

The sidequests are considerably worse than before actually. In xenoblade 1 it was a revolutionary idea that when you got all the items for a quest, it would end the second you got the last item. Now its the traditional "walk back and forth 50 times to finish this quest" that standard rpgs have

It's great. It has the best core in the series, however it is missing many of the QoL features from the first game which is irritating. They are however consistently improving it.

...did you even play the game? Or XB1? This is so untrue it hurts.

It's technically true that XB2 doesn't have the quests that instantly end when you kill 5 cows or pick up 3 of 5 different collectables, but there's also WAY less of those shitty grind side quests so overall it's a major improvement. The side quests still aren't great, but they're definitely better.

This was only done for the simple quests in XC1 and XCX. There are no simple quests in XC2.

All the instant finish quests from the old games were basically put to infinitely better use in the form of the affinity chart; that's how I thought of it, anyhow.

Good point, never thought of it that way. Those affinity nodes are basically quests that auto complete.

Could have been something truly special like the original but falls short because of questionable gameplay decisions.

Field Skills, the pointless time sink for the sake of being a time sink called Merc Missions and of course the Rare Blades gacha system.

Story, characters, interaction and group dynamic is outstanding overall but it has pacing issues during the mid chapters.

Definitely a great game which could been amazing if not for its few glaring flaws.

Its good.
