Pet: dog: German Shepherd

Age: 7 months

Issue: some people tell me wet (canned) food is better because it has less conservatives. Others tell me dogs need to chew hard stuff or they will lose their teeth or get teeth issues since nothing cleans the teeth

What do ?

When I had a dog I went with dry. Except for my Frenchie cause he had a ton of allergies so I just cooked him chicken and rice.

dog's love the crunchy dog food. just get it a brand it will eat (provided it isn't low quality) wet food does bad things to teeth over time.

Youre a good man

Thank you. Kinda had to though. When I say he had allergies what I mean is he was allergic to wheat, corn, and soy.

Neither. Feed them real meat. Raw steaks.

it's possible if know the right ratio for the B.A.R.F diet
basically the raw food diet (some dogs do really well on it) and it's all natural.

Both. I give my dog half a can of wet food mixed with a cup and a half of dry food.

Not sure if this applies, but I feed my cats mainly kibble with wet food twice a week.

Working well so far.

Dogs thrive on a balanced raw diet. If left to her own devices your dog would happily tear into a carcass. The coat is healthier and shinier, teeth are whiter, better muscle definition, etc for dogs on a raw diet.

To answer your question high grade kibble is better than wet dog food IMO.

Wet food makes your dog more likely to have dental issues although it is more palatable.

My 7 month old lab mostly eats kibble.

If we want to give him a special treat, we'll cut up some sausages for him.

But his main meal is definitely dry.

I put a little water on the dry kibble to moisten it up a bit.

Our pup is 11 weeks.

i give my dog a 1/4 can of wet food and 3/4 cup of dry with each meal. the wet food is primarily a treat because he's spoiled.

i also give him a good sized milkbone each night to encourage him to chew on hard stuff
