Being a little more gay for your husband when he gets home from work is good advice to make him happy now, but you'll need help from another housewife.

Made sense back then since a man could comfortably provide for a full family while owning his house and car with just his job alone. Most jobs wouldnt hire women unless it was as a waitress or something.

Sounds good to me.

Though ideally, there would have been another page from the other perspective saying things like "leave your muddy shoes at the door--she works hard to keep the place clean" and "try to entertain the children for a while, as they can be a handful throughout the day."

This is (part of) what marriage is all about: treating your spouse the absolute best possible.

The problem wasn't letting women have jobs. I think it's complicated but a lot of that problem came from the destruction of the nuclear family.

You have to undo a lot of population. I bet the square footage of residence per person has gone down since then. (though I just did some googling and this may not actually be the case since apparently house sizes have been growing)

The problem wasn't that women gained the ability to work -- that was good -- it's that the changes this had on the economy pushed upon women the obligation to work. So, in 2018, even if a middle-class couple would be happy with that 1950s system, it's not an option. And for women who do work, they now have to deal with both the stresses of family life (which they did in the 50s) and the added stresses of work/career life.

I never did figure out what economic changes brought the obligtion to work upon women but yeah, we don't really have the option anymore.

I'll put it the way my mother does about the subject.
Everything functioned just fine until all those *redacted* started burning their bras demanding "freedom" in the 60s. Now we're (women) all expected to have full time jobs and still do all the things we use to do. Cook, clean, take care of the kids, etc. All thanks to that baby boomer trash.

It's frustrating and childish and generally reads like a failure of imagination. I want to believe these are mostly younger posters, but know they aren't. I take comfort in the fact that while their misogyny unsettles me, modern social politics unsettles them. So we can all be unhappy together.

Regardless of gender, if someone stays home while their spouse goes to work, I don't see the problem with expecting spouse at home to do household chores and manage the kids. I don't see an issue with book when you take that into consideration.

It was probably easier to do that when the value of labor wasn't diminished by half the population entering the workforce.

Just saying, I suspect encouraging women to go to work like men may have had the unintended consequence of contributing to wage stagnation.

it is only a problem if the woman doesn't want to take care of the home. if she has aspirations to do something outside of the house, you shouldn't hold her back from pursuing those goals.

Yeah it seems ideal for the man.

That is if he wants a subservient wife.

Marriage is a two-way street. Both need to do their part. I provide for our home, while you oversee and ensure that it's upkept. That doesn't mean that I won't help out either. Nobody is being subservient in this deal.

Bruh. There's this thing called division of labour. It ain't just one partner taking care of homelife responsibilities anymore, everybody has to pitch in.

To think that every home dynamic falls into one little box is asinine. A choice is better than no choice, and it always will be.

That's not the problem I see with the article. A few snippets of things that suggest a subservient relationship:

"Take 15 minutes so you are refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking."

"[Prepare your children]... They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part."

"At the time of his arrival eliminate all noise of washer, drier, dishwasher, or vacuum... Be happy to see him."

So, what would be your c.o.a. about this then, because these little details, whether they may seem insignificant to you, display all the diffrence in the world.

We both did our jobs for that day. Is it really asking that much to come home a clean, and tranquil abode. Why do you think we're working that much for?
