Yesterday, it was revealed that Saban Brands and Bandai had mutually agreed to part ways on the master toy license for Power Rangers. Today, it was revealed that Hasbro will become the new owners of the aforementioned agreement.

Starting in Spring 2019, Hasbro will become the exclusive toy provider for Power Rangers worldwide including all past seasons, movies, and upcoming incarnations. The first Power Rangers toys under Hasbro will release in March-April of 2019.

Were particularly excited to partner together to help reignite and drive this brand for the next 25 years and more. Its a partnership that is very collaborative and feels very good to us to be in business with Saban and to help power Power Rangers. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner to Hollywood Reporter
Bandai will continue to produce Power Rangers toys in support of the franchises milestone 25th anniversary, and Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel, until March-April 2019. The company will also continue to support toys for Super Sentai, Power Rangers original source footage which airs overseas in Japan.

Suddenly that joke I'm the new Power Rangers makes more sense.

Maybe we get a crossover movie in the future? 5 year old me would die in excitement if that happened.

Yeah I know. They have and are acquiring the biggest toy licenses out there much like Disney has been with the biggest franchises.

Not good news for Bandai America, what do they even have left anymore? Digimon and Tamagotchi are pretty much the only original IPs of theirs I can think of, but their last attempt at doing both of those in the west didn't exactly do well. Not that they didn't deserve it for the way they handled Tamagotchi Friends, where they put exactly zero effort into marketing and cut up a perfectly good TV anime into tiny webshorts only on the official site so you have no way to see the glorified commercial if you don't already know about it.

Hopefully this will keep the possibility of a sequel alive. Haters be damned...very flawed movie but I enjoyed it. They just need to refine it all for a sequel.

Bandai has licensing to a ton of weaboo crap. They work out distribution deals for America in Japan before anyone else gets to make an offer.

Issue there is it seems barely any of the toyetic stuff comes out of Japan anymore unless it's an established franchise, not even to fill the timeslots for cheap like they would once upon a time. The only new thing to recently make the leap was Yo-kai Watch, but Bandai didn't get the license even though they did the toys in Japan too.
