Probably not. They're a very small portion of the population. And you just like...ruled out the one kind of movie they absolutely DOMINATE at.

Assuming you're taking out generic action movies too. Because Jet Li and Jackie Chan have both done those as well.

Also if MCU or DCEU decides on an asian hero it might happen.

So is Kal Penn. John Cho is also asian, and I do seem to remember the Harold & Kumar movies doing quite well.

it's not even a genre much seen anymore. Jackie Chan hardly stars in Hollywood these days and most of the movies he stars in (rush hour, shanghai noon) are just mediocre successes at best.

Marvel freakin' whitewashed the Ancient one and tried to justify it even. Yeah, not going to happen. If they cant even make a side character the correct race, forget about the MC.

Probably not, considering they whitewashed the hell out of Asian centred movies. How did they even try to justify Scarlet Johannson as an Asian chick?

Justified because it was an American version and the movie didn't even take place in Japan.

Is Lebanon "asian"?

He's still an Asian-American actor. Chinese and native Hawaiian isn't enough for you, eh?

the only bigger movies that I can remember that didn't have martial arts were Harold and Kumar and The Joy Luck Club

it'd be cool if there were more in the near future, though.

oh, and there's gonna be the live-action Mulan

Why would you want to whitewash Asian actors by separating them from their culture?

Black Pander is being praised in some circles due largely to the connection to their homeland and African mysticism or whatever... albeit a fictional nation in Africa but still...

Why the double-standard?

I can't keep track of when stereotypes are a good thing and when they're not.

Yeah but I think ethnic decent is a more accurate way of identifing race than the spot their parents were at when giving birth.

And at this point I hope others realize how muddy racial identities can get especially when dealing with mix-race people and how silly it is obsess over such rather trivial differences.

Chong was born in 1961 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the first daughter of Maxine Sneed and comedian/actor Tommy Chong. Chong's father is of Chinese and Scotch-Irish descent, and her mother is of Afro-Canadian and Cherokee descent.

Shit I got Ghost in the shell, mixed up with the Hawaiian movie. I forget whose the actor but some famous white actress is casted to play a Hawaiian/Japanese girl.

It was Aloha with Emma Stone I'm thinking of. Also for Ghost in the Shell, they could've just casted an Asian lead to make it resemble the original source more.

CaryTagawa & Robin Shou in Mortal Kombat?
3 weeks as the number-one film at the U.S. box office, earning over $122 million worldwide sounds like a blockbuster to me.

I'm not calling it "kung-fu shit" because it's a gaming action flick.

Could also go with Ken Watanabe films like "Letters from Iwo Jima" & "Last Samurai".
