Before sophomore year of high school, I didn't listen to anything but hip hop. I was a regular on several hip hop message boards (including the one here).

Nowadays when asked my opinion on rap, I don't even bother to qualify my statement with "I hate modern rap but I like (insert artists I used to listen to) like I used to. I just say "I hate rap"

What's weird is that a lot of people, even if they aren't primarily rap listeners, enjoy plenty of modern rap songs and artists. I made a complete 180 from loving it to completely not being able to stand modern rap.

I used to like rap when it was the cool thing to like

As in, I never really enjoyed it but listened to it hoping that'd make me "cool"

modern rap is for the most part, unfortunately really bad. there's some gems here and there but it'll never be classic and legendary like 90's rap was.

There's good rap to be found... As long as you stay away from the mainstream. All these mumblers and trappers are fucking disgusting.

There are some really good artists out there, like Joyner Lucas, Hopsin, Brother Ali, R.A. The Rugged Man, and so on.

Eh... Not sure. I mean, Kendrick Lamar has some good stuff, and the recent Jay-Z album is also pretty good, but other than that, I haven't found anything of quality.

Feel free to recommend me some, though.
