Try finding a local facebook group, thats what most of the people around me did, now we have alot of people to raid with.

Good news is that I'm invited to another EX raid next Monday. Bad news is, once again I'll be working during Community Day. And Charmander is the Gen 1 starter I see the least.

Charmander was my starter. Despite living in a rural area, i got enough candy to evolve it and max out it's CP, almost all of which was from keeping it as a partner.

Another non-chansey, non-feebas 10k egg, but I can't be mad because it hatched the stupidly rare Chimecho. I will continue to be mad about the Trapinch, Bagon, and Dratini from the last three, though.

My highest is only 87% and it's a 15deffer =x #Garbage

The one I generally use is just a 80%er (15atk) which I caught WB'd and powered up further. Also made the mistake of powering up my first one, a 69%, because I never thought there'd be a second, let alone a third or fourth.

didn't know there was a potd topic for this until just now. I really want to catch a shiny charmander because shiny charizard might be the coolest shiny of all time

I'm pretty pumped for Community Day. I'm not sure how I'm going to approach it, although at least this time I'm stocked up with plenty of pinaps and balls beforehand thanks to the fighting promo.

I woke up two hours earlier than I needed to today so I went for a pokewalk. I hatched a new Pokmon (Magmar), evolved a new one (evolution of Spheal), and finally FINALLY caught a Ditto.

I finally used my 1 quick tm on a 15/14/15 Gyarados to get it with waterfall + hydro pump.

On the final stage of the Mew quest too; just need to berry catch like 45 pokemon.

Well to be fair it was as they released the main two as a shiny, only managed a makuhita unfortunately.

What levels are your guys? And do you have any cool perfect IV/shinys?

I'm lvl 34. Shiny altaria and wailmer. I have like 6 perfect IVs but the only one with powering up is donphan

I'm level 31 and these are my best 100 IV mons

eh i didn't get my first until 30, it's not surprising

i also have a lot of built up karma of never finding a shiny in any vanilla pokemon until X/Y, and that hardly counts because they raised the rate and I was actively hunting for them by chain-fishing.

I also had a Mewtwo raid yesterday, caught it but the IVs are only 76%. Ive done seven EX raids - there are quite a few eligible gyms in my area - but my best is only 84% and most are in the lower IV tier. :(

I liked the fighting event, but unfortunately the three Pokemon I saw the most were Meditite, Mankey, and Makuhita >_> For all the Machop hype, I didn't see them in huge numbers (although I found far more than usual).

tbh, I've caught 5 or 6 Ditto in the past week, mostly from disguised Mankey. The first non-Mankey Ditto I got was a Rattata maybe a few hours after the event ended.

Well, other than day 1, it wasn't just them. Frankly, I would have rather seen far more Machop than anything. Plus, if they wanted, they could have also gone with increased odds at Pokemon that evo into fighters -- Poliwag, Shroomish, etc.

Otherwise, I'm not going to get into the semantics of unevo'd fighters (baby vs basic Pokemon), but fighting was underrepresented early on and it doesn't seem like it's ever been a huge type for basic Pokemon.

My only perfect is my Espeon (I don't use an IV-checking app so it's possible I have more). Shiny-wise, I have quite a few. I finally got my shiny Magikarp a while back, but it's far too low-level and with junk IVs to bother evo'ing. Otherwise I have all of the community day shinies except Dratini (since I missed most of the event). Beyond that, I also have Wynaut (would evo but I don't like the lipsticked version of Wobuffet) and Sableye. Sableye is generally my favorite shiny.

One thing that keeps me interested in the game, is this Pokemon Go Plus like accessory called Pokemon Gotchya. It autocatches and autospins pokestops, which is great for my 3 mile bike ride to work. It also helps make it so I get distance on eggs/buddy while riding.

I caught way more Mareep than that last month. But I was going for basically the entire event.

I think I got six shiny Mareep last month, but at work I doubt I'll get one shiny Charmander.

Definitely doable if youre playing on community day at a park or somewhere else with a lot of pokestops

Might want to make a charmander your buddy to help yourself out too

if IVs are so important and everyone but me somehow knew about them, why aren't they displayed anywhere? It sounds like appraising your boi is the closest you can get to knowing, but even that isn't exact.

Also levels. It doesn't show pokemon levels anywhere. Why not, if they're meant to be known?

Cause niantic doesnt want people obsessing over IVs

In the game meta though almost all pokemons most important stat will be their attack. So generally a 14/8/8 will be far more useful than a 10/15/15

The only exceptions are the few pokemon that are good gym defenders like Blissey/Chansey/Snorlax/Slaking

They're available by assessment. You can tell the range of stats by how the Pokemon is described. Most higher level players check iv or ask their team leader to rate their Pokemon, right after catching then dust it or save it.

It's like how in the other Pokemon games it's something you have to poke for. They've just chosen to not display the exact numbers so people don't obsess over it. But it definitely does make a difference and should be accounted for.

I made the newb mistake of sinking resources into low level low iv monsters. Don't do it.

A LOT of information is not actually explained to you in the game. Including how curve balls and Nice/Great/Excellent throws work, just for a few.

Mine has Shadow Claw and Low Sweep, which is just a god-awful typing combination. Not only is there no STAB, but anything that one move is effective against is not effective with the other move (if that makes sense)

EX: vs. Alakazam - Shadow Claw is super effective, but Low Sweep is not very effective.
EX: vs. Snorlax - Shadow Claw is not very effective, but Low Sweep is super effective.

There's no pokemon that I can attack that will have super effective damage for both moves, and generally getting one super effective move will result in the other being not very effective.

I've been having a decent string of luck in the game lately. In the past month I've seen four Snorlax (caught three, the strongest one ran away). That includes one time I caught Snorlax and Blissey within ten minutes of each other.

I still don't have a perfect IV yet to my knowledge, but maybe if my luck holds out I can get a Shiny Charmander after all.

You should if you check every Charmander during the community day window. In the last two (Mareep and Bulbasaur), I got two shinies of each. They really raise the rates during those three hours.

Yeah I personally don't like to count the "easy" shinies as shinies (i.e. community day ones, fighting bonus ones (meditite/makuhita)), considering they're so easy.

The only real shiny I have is a Swablu, now Altaria. Looks fucking sweet, but Altaria only has like a max CP of 1.5k or so (I'm level 31)

Ive had pretty good luck with Zapdos research catches. My best from the initial round of raids was only 91%, but the last two weeks I got a perfect and 98% which is pretty good. I also got a perfect Lugia (and a shiny) when they were rereleased, so round two of the legendaries has been good to me for the most part.

Week event shinies are still rare. Community is like 1/25, week rarity is like 1/256. Most people get a community shiny, most don't get a week one. (Plus remember that raid shinies are like 1/50 supposedly.)
