Also Kenny Omega is apparently in hot water over last night's event.

There was somehow a booking oversight that allowed the dark match spot to be given to Chasyn Rance, who is a registered sex offender. Kenny said that he fucked up by not vetting things more properly, he said he wasn't as hands-on as he should've been about who was being involved in the booking process for the Dark Match. It was a sincere and genuine apology offering refunds to anyone who felt "unsafe" or couldn't enjoy the show due to Rance's involvement.

And people are still pissed at him, acting as though Kenny Omega personally led a sex offender out in front of people just to make them feel uncomfortable.

Unbelievable that this is where we're at.

I didn't pay super close attention because the whole thing was so ridiculous, but essentially, Kenny gave an interview where he said that the foreigners in New Japan tend to work harder than the Japanese talent preparing for matches. It was clearly intended as a shot at Naito to build that storyline but that didn't stop all the morons from calling him a racist, despite the fact that Omega's pretty much the biggest weeb you could find.

I think Omega shouldn't have to apologise because this is the kind of crowd you don't want to give an inch to.

If I have to choose between supporting Omega or Dave fucking Bixenspan, then Omega gets my money.

A lot of the crowd crucifying Omega don't even support him or NJPW financially and never would. But because they right now this guy dared to be different they are making the most of this opportunity to bury the guy.

This is being compared to the Saudi Arabia show.

To be fair, he didn't outright say "I haven't known him since 2004," he says "Admittedly, I'd met Chasyn Rance once in 2004, but a lot can happen in 14 years"

If I were one to take Omega's side in this, what I would get from that is to suggest that he had some kind of lengthy/personal interaction with him in 2004, but hasn't had any lengthy conversation/personal interaction with him since. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that working with his company doesn't mean he has outright interacted with Chasyn directly enough to perhaps put two and two together of "Hey, wait a minute, you're that guy," since you can work for somebody and only ever say two or three words to them, so beyond thinking they were a cordial ring crew and a picture here and there, it could logically be the case.

That said, I'm honestly not sure which stance I take. While what Rance did is absolutely reprehensible, it's also a bit lighter on the "sex offender" side, and so I'm not fully sure how high I rank it on a list of things to be upset about at a wrestling show. Were the guy to be advertised, receiving top billing, and a bunch of exposure, then I'd certainly weigh it higher. That isn't to say it shouldn't be weighed at all, but I do think there's a bit of difference between him as a sex offender and, say, a serial rapist/sexual assaulter as a sex offender, in that one should make you much, much more uncomfortable than the other. Which isn't to say Rance shouldn't make you uncomfortable, of course, he sounds like a slimy bastard. I'm just one to not like to blanket everybody as the same when there are varying levels of severity.

As for how much I believe Omega knew, I'm honestly not sure. I'd actually be very interested to know what kind of comments that picture received at the time it was posted. I'd lean toward him having to heard about it, but at the same time, it's not super recent, so I would say there's plausible deniability, there.

I personally don't know where I stand on the issue. Do I think it's fair he got called out for it? Sure. But I also think it should have been dropped pretty quickly, and I feel like the internet was going to crucify him no matter what his response was because, well, that's what the internet does.
