When did you quit? What made you quit? Any plans on going back? Would you say you were addicted? What games have you enjoyed since?

I don't recall when I quit. It was after Wrath of the Lich King was out but before Cataclysm was released. I don't recall if Cataclysm was announced or not. So it would of probably been in 2009, or early 2010.

I quite because I finally got a max level character and felt I was just doing the same stuff again and again. I also hated how any max level dungeon group seemed to expect you to read a walkthrough, before doing the dungeon.

i am one of those people that resubs every now and then. last time i quit was right when Legion came out, because I had a lot going on in my life at the time and just didn't feel like doing another loot treadmill again. I played WoW again last weekend when it was f2p but I don't really have any motivation to come back, even for BfA.

I don't think I was ever really addicted to WoW, but I definitely put in A LOT of time. the problem with WoW is that even if you have a good handle on it, in order to get any real satisfaction out of the game, WoW has to be your main hobby. You can't really play any other games, if you raid or w/e you have to adhere to a schedule, reach goals at certain points, etc. It's just a huge waste of time, especially since a lot of the activities aren't even fun.

Since I quit WoW, the only game series that really drew me in were the Dark Souls games. If you've ever played them, in a lot of ways they are very similar to WoW. Other than that I also enjoy the more casual shared world games like Destiny 2 or The Division, where you get the satisfaction of loot and leveling up and all that but the gameplay is very streamlined and much more engaging.

I also hated how the game seemed to really be pushing the Alliance vs Horde conflict. Like how the developers were making the charcters make such stupid decisions, in order to facilitate the conflict.

I got bored of the quests and didn't enjoy playing with the community I came across. Got a character to level 80 up to the Panda expansion. Paying the sub was always an annoyance and I had other games I wanted to play. Now I'm older and work more with more responsibilities so I can't dedicate the needed time to get immersed in the game. Plus I prefer gaming on the couch.

Hitting the level cap of Warlords was when I last quit
It became boring, sitting in dungeon queues all day doing the same daily chores for meaningless upgrades
Never going back unless Classic servers are any good
Was addicted during TBC but there was nothing else to do with my life at that point in time
Going back to The Realm has made me enjoy MMORPGs again

Seems to be how I've done things too. Played and raided hardcore in vanilla and BC. Have been playing off and on since then, usually quitting when I hit "walls" due to not having anyone to play with any longer. All my old guildies quit and I've been too lazy to join a new one, mainly because I don't want to invest time in it like I did back in the day.

I don't get this line of thinking. There is way more to do now days then there was in vanilla. To each their own I guess.

I wouldn't consider daily quest driven gameplay as "more to do"

It just becomes a chore at that point

I quit when Burning Crusade came out and high school happened.

I am 110% going back for Classic, whenever the fuck that comes out.

Every time I've quit it's because I couldn't bring myself to devote enough time to the game to get as far as I wanted. My timeline is basically
Vanilla to Wrath
Private servers (Wrath & BC)
WoD (stopped after a month)
Legion (after all the big patches had come out)

I quit again after one month of Legion and I'm done for good. Once again, no time for it, but they also ruined the game and now it's a pile of trash. It's been happening for a while (since Wrath IMO) but it's just so cynical about it now.

So to answer my own questions...

Played from original 2004 release until about 3 months into Cata, where I recognized that PvP balance and dynamics had gone to shit. Came back for 1 month in the middle of MoP, only because my friends were begging me. Haven't played since.

I quit because the game got worse, especially for PvPers. Larger health pools and lower relative damage created a PvP environment with a much slower pace that gave too much room for bad player to correct their mistakes in longer matches. The game in general just got way too casual and poorly balanced. The lore became convoluted after WotLK too. Features like raid finder turned an MMO where players were reliant on in-game relationships, into an impersonal MMO where player interaction was inconsequential. The whole point of the game being an MMO was virtually eliminated. Might as well play with robots.

I will never play WoW again. No interest. Spent far too much of my life on the game already, and I realized a few years after quitting that I wasn't even having fun, but was simply addicted.

Since WoW I've enjoyed Elite Dangerous, Terraria, Stardew Valley, Factorio, Street Fighter 5, Cities Skylines, Civilization 5, Outlast, The Division, Starbound, Stellaris, PUBG, and several other games.
