Current Events > TATTOOS: New tattoo flaking slightly on day 5-6?

Got it sunday evening, it seemed to scab over fairly quickly, washing 3 times daily, switched from A&D to lotion on day 3

This morning it started to slightly flake, and just now washing before bed I noticed a couple tiny flakes wash away. Is this normal at this point?

This is my second tattoo and its been a few years since my first so I dont really remember much about the healing process aside from the hellish itching.

Tattoos kill the top layer of skin in the way a sunburn does. So peeling is normal.

This is the only reason I dont have one right now. I didnt realize it was such a pain in the ass. You see people walking around with Saran Wrap all over themselves

Yeah I know the peeling is normal, I was just slightly concerned at the timeframe; got worried I wasnt moisturizing enough or w/e.

Wrap comes off the first day, unless you want an infection

Oh yeah, it'll flake a bit. I feel ya since I got my first tat in like 4 years last month and when it flaked/peeled I freaked. Didn't help it was full color.

Just don't pick or scratch at it

Wait a few weeks, can't tell until like the 3rd week of healing

Yeah, this is perfectly normal. All of this depends on your own skin, humidity, how much sun you are putting yourself in, etc. But since it's basically an open wound, it's going to scab.

Also, don't use any specific tattoo related aftercare products. All you really need to do for aftercare is wash it 3-4 times a day for the first week with antibiotic soap(fragrance free), switching to twice a day until it's no longer open, and put basic fragrance free lotion on it multiple times a day until healed.

Alright, Ill wait and see; just a little concerned bc it seems like theres the scabbed lines, and then around that some fuzziness/blurring, rathher than just the lines looking thicker due to scabbing.
