Current Events > Is The Witcher 2 worth playing before The Witcher 3?

Or should I just jump right to the 3rd game? I know the 3rd one is supposed to be a big improvement, but I feel like I'll be missing out if I don't play the 2nd one.

I liked Witcher 2 so i would recommend playing it. 3 definately improves things and does a good job explaining who people are and gives you plenty of info to read to catch up but you will probably start a little lost if you have no background in the series.

3 can be a stand alone game, you just might have to read the codex to gain context to some of the characters. Geralt is very much plugged into the world so a lot of his interactions implies you know about their past.

That being said, the narrative is well done enough that you can get by just inferring things and following along.

Playing 2 might make the experience a bit more rich. If you have time and are willing, it's not a bad idea.

I played 2 a little before the third come out. It was pretty good and I felt it aged well (at the time. Havent seen it since). So yeah, if you have the will and time, do it

Skip it.

IMO The Witcher 3 is good enough that you should want to play it before dying, which could be tomorrow. Don't take that risk. Start with 3.

3 starts in a spot easy enough to understand the basic plot/world structure.

No matter which Witcher game you start in you'll be a little lost. Might as well start with the best one.

yea, Witcher 2 is pretty great, IMO.

there's a choice that you make in the game that branches out into two different paths.

they're significant enough to play through the game at least twice.

Weight management mods are a must because nobody wants to be encumbered by crafting materials.

IMO witcher 2 kind of sucks. witcher 1 was much better, but really unless you have all the time in the world then just skip them both and play 3. Its so much better than the other two its not even funny

Witcher 2 is great but if you play Witcher 3 before it you're going to have a much greater chance of disliking it since 3 is just a better game and experience overall and it'll feel like a step back. It's like playing Mass Effect 2 and then playing the first one.

Witcher 2 was great but had some serious issues. Witcher 3 is better in every way. But again, Witcher 2 IS a great game.
