Apparently the improvements they have made are fantastic. I'll give it a shot since it comes out on the XBox next week. I played it when it first came out for the PS4 and enjoyed it. I didn't go in with such lofty expectations though. Excited to see what it's like now.

The last update that added all the quests, actual factions, revamped crafting system, etc made it a LOT more enjoyable.

Legitimately good game now.

NEXT is a free update if you already have the game.

Gotta give Hello Games some credit for actually making things right and not just dropping the game support.

There actually were a lot of really impressive things about the game at launch (particularly the "see there, go there" thing) but it clearly needed at least a year or more of development before actually releasing.

It's a shame that its reputation will forever be tarnished, because the game it has turned into is really pretty great.

The game as it stands even right now (before the NEXT update) is barely even recognizable to the one that launched.

Yeah, I didn't *hate* it. I was actually surprised when it said I had only played for 4 hours before I tried it again a few months ago cause I could have sworn I put in a solid 12.

This is why it bothers me that people are all "too late to care" about it.

If it has turned into the game that got you interested in the first place, give it a chance.

Hell, at least Hello Games made things right. That's a vast improvement over what most companies do (drop support right after launch and sell you the fixed version later, if ever)

This. If it's ~$20 (which it should be), I might get it digital for the gamesharing and co-op.

Is it gonna be a boring game though? Like, is there anything to do in the game? A story or loot system or crafting system that makes the exploration worth doing? Or is the whole premise that the game is good to look at therefore go explore?

So, I wonder if they ever fixed the wonky spawn system? I remember being amazed at the first few planet's lifeforms before realizing that the same creatures would spawn on other planets, just looking slightly different.

Basically, that's how I felt. The people crying and shitting themselves over it were insane to think it would be a revolution, anyway. Equally at fault was the company's failure to get a decent hype man who could at least twist the words with some ambiguity instead of just blatantly saying 'yes!' to everything.

What we got was an alright space exploration game with some cool atmospheric effects and some neat ideas that really, really needed some fleshing out. Really, that could be said about most sandboxes (Minecraft, Terraria), it's just that we've been a bit jaded by how much those games have been fleshed out over the years. Had the game come out in 2011, it probably would have had a massive cult following.

I figured that time would make the game amazing, but I lost track of it around when they added new vehicles. What has been added since?

It's been looking cool for years now. It had a pretty bad release that was insanely overblown by people though

This is a first in game development. Release a game then actually start working on it real time while the players play.

First impressions are key. It's not unreasonable to not want to go back to a game two years after release if it was disappointing at launch. It's cool that they put in the work but people do move on.
