Not true. Millennials like Colorado and Chicago. The rest...not so much. I mean most of the major urban centers are on the coast

Colorado you're right about but Illinois is more of a flyover state with a non-flyover city according to millennials.

Nashville has a pretty hot housing market, lots of people moving there (not sure its millenials specifically)

most of the millenials who complain about housing prices have moved across the country

that is why the housing prices are so high, because people keep moving there

To the extent that millennials are flocking to coastal states in particular, that's mostly just NY, SF, and LA, areas where professional industries of media, finance, tech are all highly concentrated.

You have obviously not been to the north side of Chicago. Its a millennial hipster playground. Even the west side is getting gentrified by millenials. Plenty of millenial yuppies have corporate jobs down town too. A lot of them out of towners.

I spent at least half my life living in a coastal state but not the "right coastal state"

on the west coast, only california matters, both to californians and to the rest of the country. 9 times out of 10 if a fictional story is set on the west coast it is in CA. and many foreigners don't even know WA and OR exist. they think CA stretches from Mexico to Canada.

anyway, I have a long experience with being mocked and ignored in my state. so I always understood how "flyover states" felt. and now I moved to possibly the most ignored state in the entire country. so I am sympathetic to all states that people like to make fun of. But mainly I put 90% of the blame game on CA and NY. those are the most egocentric states in the nation. they both think they are the best and that the rest of the country should worship them.

I'm willing to ally with any other state in a campaign to take those 2 down a peg

to some degree it is. I mean ok people know it exists but most of the time if someone says "im going out west" they mean they are going to CA. and one time there was this contest online, it might have been on gamefaqs but someone asked non americans, or I think mostly people from Europe were asked....to draw a picture of the US, all states, like a map, just from pure memory or knowledge without looking anything up. and I have a very clear memory of one person's map had CA on the entire west coast, and WA and OR just didn't exist.

lmao who gives a fuck what anyone thinks of where you live

people who wear a municipality like it's a badge are no better than the rest of the bottom nationalists. i'll never understand it.

as for tc's question:

millennials see opportunity where there is economic growth (mostly in the city) because they don't live in a vacuum like their pre-internet parents.

I don't know that it's always a bad thing. I'm proud to be from Austin because my family has been here a very long time and has played a role in developing the city into what it has become.

austin is a relatively good city judging by my experiences there, but the fact is there are many cities that are better or worse than austin depending on what parameters you're going to measure a municipality on. mainly what i am referring to is the general hubris that some people bring to the table when they start talking about a place they reside- as if it is somehow better than anything else on planet earth. this is particularly annoying if the person lives in a vacuum and has never travelled.
