Comcast announced Thursday that it will drop its pursuit of the 21st Century Fox assets that it was fighting over with Disney. Comcast had bid $65 billion for Fox's movie studio, which is responsible for franchises like "Avatar" and "X-Men," along with Fox's regional sports networks and cable channels like FX and National Geographic. Disney's most recent bid was $71 billion. The battle with Disney isn't completely over: Comcast said Thursday it will continue to pursue its bid for British broadcaster Sky, which Disney is also trying to buy through Fox. Comcast has offered $34 billion for that company. I think it's a lot of internet nerds that think Disney is bigger than Comcast simply because they have access to many of the franchises they care about, even though Comcast is much bigger than them. Plus any Marvel fan worth their salt would want to see the X-Men in the MCU at least once in their lifetime. And obviously a massive chunk of that goes to the making, and marketing + taxes. I know there are other aspects of MCU but MCU alone would probably take a couple decades + to recoup this money in profits. But its a long term investment and one that cuts out some competition for superhero box office money and the MCU and the benifits it gets from this are only a notable but not massive chunk of Disneys business. They have Pixar, Star Wars, Mickey Mouse, ABC. Their vast trove of existing movies and newer hit CGI films like Frozen and many other assets. Disney can probably make this back and than some if it keeps it current successes going. It wont be back in a flash.
