They might be able to apply Snapchat filters better than you can, but if there's one thing millennials can't do, it's apparently make their way around the kitchen.

According to a study from Porch, between millennials, Gen Xers and baby boomers, millennials rate themselves as the worst kitchen cooks of all, with only 5 percent of twenty- to thirtysomethings considering themselves "very good" at home cooking. They also rate themselves last in being able to tackle (very) basic dishes like fried eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches and lasagna. (Though, they do feel more confident than baby boomers at baking store-bought plop-and-drop cookie dough.)

And while many baby boomers aren't so great at identifying a salad spinner, Thrillist notes it's not so bad once you consider about 40 percent of millennials can't even recognize a butter knife.

The one thing they are good at? According to the study, millennials are the top generation investing in meal delivery services and utilizing Internet videos for cooking advice. Hey, at least we're they're trying.

Why is this?

lasagna.

Lumping lasagna in with fried eggs and grilled cheese makes me question this entire article

I mean, a true butter knife is pretty old school. We've rebranded the standard table knife as a butter knife.

Why is this?

Loss of time, money, and the increased popularity of eating out, Id imagine

if i had to work from a recipe i could tackle it. just alot of work because of so many ingredients required but the outcome is better.
i had cooking class in high school and advanced placement. learned various terms such as ganache.

Im not surprised. I know very few people who can cook. They eat out pretty much every day.

We had a potluck and we were only 3 people out of like 30 that actually made something versus buying it from a store

Yeah. I'll admit that I'm guilty of eating out/ordering out often, or sticking to a few very simple meals. I still feel like everyone should know how to cook at least a few things very well, and if you can read you can easily prepare something by following a recipe. Hell, like with anything else you could even YouTube it these days. I think most people are just lazy or don't care to learn.

I feel like most people will probably die off in a matter of maybe a week if society ever collapses.. or even just if Internet/cell phones go down.

Cooking is easy to learn.

However, it's best to learn this when you're younger so you "just know" instead of having to figure it all out on your own later.

Sort of like foreign languages really.

As a millienial that has to support a family, I've learned to cook lots of decent dinner meals. The more I cook and gain confidence in the kitchen, the more likely I am to try a new recipe or spice up a learned dish.

Cook books and websites are great motivators to try new recipes. Some arent great but some really become hits and join the regular rotation of dinners.

And yes I am the main cook of the house. If my wife had her way we would be eating chicken drumsticks and potatoes every night.

How is lasagna notbasic? Cook some ground beef with garlic and onions, pour in tomato sauce, layer sauce between uncooked noodles in a pan, cover with cheese and bake.

It seems to be the boomers/gen x shtick to talk about how much more manly they were than millenials. Granted this is something every generation seems to do but it really amped up with them. Which is why we get commercials like this https://www.ispot.tv/ad/w4mX/force-factor-test-x180-ignite-man-up-america-walmart

well hell, i mean spaghetti is basic too if you just throw some noodles on a plate and squirt some ketchup on them.

if you do them right though, neither are basic at all. lasagna especially.

Oh cmon neither spaghetti or lasagna are really difficult. The hardest part is buying the ingredients.
