"The sentence should have been: I don't see any reason why I wouldn't -- or why it wouldn't be Russia," the president said Tuesday before a meeting with Republican members of Congress.

Pence really thinks he has any chance at a career when this is all over. When Trump does this kind of shit though reality begins to set in.
Pence is probably hoping Trump keels over at some point, and he can coast to an easy re-election by virtue of observing "proper decorum" and maybe ending one or two deeply unpopular policies while doubling-down on the "moral" aspects of Trump's policies.
