Eh. It's not like she's in instead of someone better. Most of the cut characters are either not that good or have similar styles to existing characters. The biggest non-guest character cut is probably Setsuna.

You guys are missing the point, it's not about the fact she exists. It's kinda cool to see her back in the series.

It's about the fact that playing against her is the worst experience in a fantastic game. Would be cool that she's there if she wasn't a big ol' butt-muncher

Voldo is a dick too though

IMO it's the oppressive mid-range horizontals, plus one long range horizontal that makes it dangerous to step when you're trying to come in. Also she has this one low stab attack that reaches from absurd distances and pushes you further back, and I believe she gets a break attack version of it when she uses soul charge that catches all rolls when you're on the ground.

Basically all these punks online keep running away and she's beatable but really frustrating to try and chase down, and then she's just quick enough up close that you can't be too oppressive with any rushdown. So it's like, stay on your toes or else get pushed back out to mid range where you have to play the "approach me" game again

I won the last few times I faced her online. She's not busted. Just not fun to fight.

This round is a pretty good example of why she's annoying. The round starts with her showing off the long-range horizontal I mentioned, and then a long-range launcher that's safe on block as far as I can tell. Then the rest of the round (after Cervantes's cool CE hits) is the oppressive mid range horizontals and some really quick shorter range pokes. Makes it difficult for you to move at all against her.

I'm maining voldo as always (still pretty rusty/bad), and haven't fully decided who else to main this go around.

Comparing it to SC2, which is the one i'm most familiar with, this one feels both slower and faster in awkward ways. In 2 I felt like I had more instantaneous response when controlling any of the characters, and I could seamlessly flow through their animations, for example stance changes with nightmare or "attack setup animation routine things" (for lack of a better word) like killik's QCF or QCB. But so far in 6 I feel like I'm trying to put them through the paces only to get needlessly stuck in clunky executed animations. So that's why it feels slower, but it also feels faster in that I don't feel like I have comfortable amounts of time when chaining attacks together, and i dunno. I'm hoping it will start to click for me after putting in some more time, because I'm having fun with the game but the mechanics are, for me at least, just a bit off.

I like Mina, but she is more fan service from a character point. Like Kilik has been a better character in terms of gameplay pretty much in every aspect except for some niche moves that she has had over Kilik. That said, in a lot of games Mina has always been a lot easier to pick up as a lot of her combos only require a few inputs and can be easily memorized (but at the same time are also rather predictable).

Wait, so you're telling me they rolled back the time jump to SCV (because everyone complained about that for some reason), and then they didn't even have the decency to put Setsuka back in? So now both Setsuka and Patroklos are out?

Did they at least put in a new Iaido user? Or was shaving Mitsurugi too much effort already put into katana characters?

What was even the point of the timeline rollback then? Just so they could put Cassandra and Rock back in or something?

To be fair, SCII era Lizardman was just another sword and shield user too (not that people likely would have complained if he'd just been like his SCV iteration).

Grh has elements of his playstyle reminiscent of Setsuka, but that's the closest we've got to her at the moment.

I mean, they had no problem putting in Zasalamel (admittedly probably the only character I actually was upset over losing for SCV because we didn't get a moveset that really even approximated his) and Tira, so it's not like they're outright ignoring post-II Soul Calibur. They could have gone with a later Lizardman.

But even then, "just another Sword and Shield user"? It's just Sophitia in this game, since her kids and sister are nowhere to be found. SCVI is actually lacking in sword-and-board variety compared to every entry since... what, SCI? (Taking Link in SC2 as another S&S.)

Unless this character list I'm looking at is incomplete, which is always a possibility, I guess.

Well, Kilik and Seong Mi-na shared moves for a good chunk of early Soul Calibur (I think III was the first one to actually give her different moves), so that makes sense.

IIRC, the explanation from the "original timeline" (meaning I have no idea if SCVI retconned this with its "new timeline") was that Mi-na was trained by a guy who came from the same temple where Kilik learned to fight, so she has a similar style to that temple.

SCVI spoilers
She's trained by Xianghya's dad, who also trained at Kilik's temple. This doesn't explain why you meet random unnamed bandits who also have Kilik's moveset, but eh.

Oh, they kept that then - that's how it was in the "original timeline" as well.

I figure the bandits are just because they had to give non-specific weapon movesets to the bandits and wanted variety - they can hardly give bandits Nightmare's Soul Edge-based moveset, after all. As it is, using a pole makes sense for a bandit, even if the only pole moveset is supposed to be based on the martial arts teachings of Ling-Sheng Su Temple.

Huh, so I wonder what's actually changed in this timeline.

Didn't we already know that though? If you take off Nightmare's helmet in SCV CAS, he has Raphael's face. Also, I think Raphael is the only playable veteran at base in that game who has zero presence in the story mode (Dampierre's DLC, and Algol is a special case on his own anyway), so it makes sense that he actually is in the story as a character we don't identify immediately.

Also, isn't this game set in an alternate timeline seventeen years before SCV anyway? How does it reveal anything from then?

The roster kinda blows in general imo. Only 2 actual new characters yet tons of cuts. At least Geralt is cool I guess and this Grh guy is supposedly cool. Meh.

Can Geralt's fighting style at least be used in the character creator?
