Again, you have to make everything about you. This board has never been anti-rallies. Mario/Crono was rallies. Pretty much every major match from the early contests was rallies.

This "rallies are fine as long as my character/game wins" mentality has ALWAYS BEEN HERE. It just became more noticeable in the previous two contests because nobody here actually wanted Draven or Undertale to win. And it doesn't matter what your opinion on the issue is, because that opinion is only yours and has no effect on anyone else's opinions. The only one "literally obsessed" with you is you.

Thats what it seems like to me. I would have preferred X to win, but if someone rallied a few extra votes for Tifa, thats not really worth getting too upset over. Maybe if she went on to win with like 56% or something.

Nobody should complain about MMX losing. If MMX really deserved the win, he should have been popular enough to win the match by a margin that rallies cannot overcome.

I would take Tifa or MMX to beat Bowser or Yoshi with like 55%...so Luigi needs to be a bit above them to be able to take out Tifa, in my opinion. But Luigi's performances have looked a lot better than his fellow Mario rivals, so Luigi could definitely win it. I think Tifa still has the slight advantage, though.

I've got no inconsistency with rallies. If I think it looks like an actual rally I like it (unless it's for Pokemon cause screw them). If I think it appears unnatural and more like vote stuffing I don't. This one seemed legit. Probably had some vote stuffing from both sides because I'm sure they all do, but mostly legitimate.

I even liked the L-Block rally. Rooted against it passionately, but liked it in the end. That being said there's something different even with that one vs a small scope thing like this one.

Me, I don't even have a problem with the rallies. Not even the big ones that hijack the entire contest, even if I don't like them. The Draven thing, I was just hyped up that we had a villain to try to take down. Draven vs. Link was the most intense match that I've been present for, since I'm comparatively new here, having only arrived in '09.

Undertale, I was a bit disappointed only because Division 3 was legitimately the division I was most excited about. Granted, given how the rest of the contest went, it's pretty obvious that SMW would've easily beaten SMB3 (not that it would've gotten the chance because RBY got in the way), but the SMB3/SMW/RBY debate, and even though I'm a Pokfan I would've rather seen one of the Marios win because I really feel like SM64 could've surprised everyone by beating them in the quarterfinals. And none of those interesting matches ever came to pass because Undertale was in their division instead of, say, Division 1. Now that would've been fun, and I would've laughed my ass off at the salt when CT took an early loss...oh, wait, that happened anyway! Thanks Melee!

Tails might have actually been the outright favorite over Luigi from the votes coming in from the outside rallies. It should be noted that anonymous users also may also regular site visitors voting in the matches that simply don't have an account. Some of them may also be site visitors who stumbled upon the matches after landing on the site from Google or another search engine and then were somehow able to browse to the homepage.

Looking at just the final 3 hours, Tifa seemed to have the larger rally going during that time.

Sephiroth seems to have been hurt only very slightly by the rallied votes. The rallied votes might have been favoring Sephiroth with maybe 59-60% of the vote over Amaterasu where as the other anonymous votes not connected to the rally were favoring Sephiroth with more than 62% of the vote.

KOS-MOS was another character who got a great boost from the Tifa rally, although it's not as likely that the rallied votes outright favored KOS-MOS over Ryu.

You know, is it me, or is this the contest of waifus? It sure seems like waifu girls, cartoony pretty girls, have been doing real well. From the anime girls, to even Zelda, if you consider her a sort of waifu.

Waifu games are all the rage in the Steam community, from what I understand (someone correct me if Im mistaken, its not my type of genre). Maybe waifus are more popular as characters now than back in the day, when maybe gamers were more male centric?

We have on record the MMX rally getting 1.9k views and I think Extha said his tifa one got like 1k

Caught up with the night posts

I must say - that as a Mega Man X supporter - both as a huge fan and from bracket perspective - I must apologize for Black Turtle's behaviour
He does not represent the Mega Man fanbase and is making us look bad, so for that I apologize.
Tifa win was legitimate, both characters were rallied (X even had a very minor /v/ rally, alongside that big reddit rally)

I must thank everyone involved that helped us get the (probably) best match of the contest

Here's the percentage of the last option over the history of those polls:

The early 2018 poll might have been an outlier, since today's poll is more similar to last year's poll than the one from early 2018.

The first thing I noticed was a huge jump in the "never" option between the 2015 and 2016 polls. Gordon didn't really seem any weaker in 2013 compared to 2010, so his strength may have started declining as early as 2014 (and certainly by 2015).

Tifa is an important character from the second most popular game on this site. She have defeated a couple of popular characters and even went 50/50 with Samus Aran.

Draven went from losing to a freaking Persona character to dominating the whole contest.

The only rally I can see happening is Tifa > Sephiroth and I know Board 8 would support that!

Mega Man was able to beat Charizard with Zero in the poll in the year Pokemon was at it's strongest
Now granted you might say Pikachu>Charizard, which is true, but I am not sure 2018 Pikachu > 2013 Charizard
You can also might argue Detective Pikachu trailer boost or Let's Go boost...but I doubt
Pikachu performance here is good, but nothing that would put Mega Man in danger

I actually buy 2018 Pikachu being ahead of 2013 Zard. However, 2013 Zard still needed Zero in the poll to just about beat Mega Man. Pikachu should look respectable, but I highly doubt the winner will ever be in question.

Mega Man nearly got 50% in the bonus match with Pikachu and Mewtwo (another harbinger of Mewtwo is a fraud, in case you were wondering), so Pikachu would have needed almost 100% of Mewtwo's votes to beat Mega Man there.

I think it's more that female characters are more prominent in games nowadays, but at the same time they're not widespread enough for people to just view them with indifference the same way they do with realistically-proportioned human male characters (aka GENERIC MCDUDES).

Would the Yakuza characters count as McDudes? Just asking since technically they're not white.

Squall got 44.42% on Vivi in 2013. If Zelda = Ganondorf, Squall gets 38.34% on Vivi right now.

You are missing the point. The Waifu Factor doesn't mean that any generic anime girl can now defeat Link. The Waifu Factor is more that cute anime girls suddenly get an X% increase in their base strength this year compared to past.

And yes, it's pretty clear to me that the Waifu factor is real and I've believed in it since 2B started beasting. I used to use r/gaming a lot and you have no idea how much sexy 2B cosplay/fanart there is on there and someone else here has mentioned that 2B is the "waifu of the generation", which I believe from all the cosplay.

If anything, just look at Final Fantasy. Terra, Aeris, Tifa all look great, while the men of Final Fantasy all range from slightly disappointing to complete jokes. You can offer whatever complex explanation you want to describe the state of Final Fantasy on this site, but Occam's Razor has Waifu Factor written all over it.
