I still think Mario's even at worst indirectly, and he can probably exert a bit of hierarchy to boot. Still, I wouldn't underestimate Samus's chances of making it close at this point.

Samus can flex all the indirect power she wants, Mario actually goes out and directly uses his power. And he's stomped her multiple times before. And Samus hasn't had anything except a 3DS game worth a damn since the Prime Trilogy, while Mario has Odyssey boosting him into the stratosphere.

I'll be shocked to ever see Samus beat Mario in my lifetime.

If Tifa can rSFF Sephiroth, then I'm pretty sure Mario can rSFF Samus even if Samus is stronger!

If Tifa is stronger than Sephiroth, Samus is stronger than Mario. Since Tifa would not be rSFFing Sephiroth, you can make a greater case that Mario can't rSFF Samus. But if Sephiroth is stronger than Tifa, then, well, Mario obviously wins because he's above Samus.

Or better yet, just throw everything up in the air. Anything can happen!

The Tifa/Sephiroth match means absolutely nothing in proving Samus > Mario anyways. Same fanbase match-ups can be wonky sometimes, which makes Tifa/Sephiroth an unreliable match to make indirect comparisons between Mario and Samus. It's not possible to say for sure if there is SFF, rSFF, or no SFF in the Tifa/Sephiroth match. In addition, the match picture could also be skewing the results since both characters have sprites. It feels like Sephiroth should be hurt more by a sprite picture compared to Tifa.

I think the mandatory two-match voting system empowers anti-voting, because a bunch of people that normally would skip an FF7 vs FF7 match are being forced to click one of two in order to vote for Snake

Sephiroth is a long time favorite, so why not throw a vote in the opposite direction.

The forced voting in all matches running at the same time could be helping Tifa out as she is picking up votes from people who might have otherwise abstained from the match.
