For me it's:

- Classes
- Character Creation
- Unique Weapons
- Learning new abilities/spells
- Combat

Honestly the most important thing is that the game should be easy.

I mean I don't really have time for a 70 hour game anyway, let alone one that will result in 100 additional hours of game overs.

Confession: I play every game with difficulty options on the easiest possible setting.

It's not that I can't beat things on harder difficulties, I absolutely can, I'm just really fucking busy lately and prefer to go beast mode on some enemies.

This is a very specific want, but I love RPGs with dedicated ultimate equipment sets. Like in (the original version of) FFIV, the final dungeon contained a set of ultimate gear for nearly everyone. Bonus points if they have some story relevance (like Lloyd's Material Blades in Tales of Symphonia). I really like checking those boxes in games.

Witcher 3 taught me that none of that stuff actually matters unless you have a gripping narrative and characters with depth.

Take Kingdoms of Amalur. Had everything you listed in spades TC, and yet was super dull because it didn't have any actual personality.

I really hate the company got shutdown due to incompetence. Hopefully someone will get the rights and expand on it.

Oh dang, better than nothing I suppose. Curious to see what they do with the IP, thanks for the info.

Just hope they leave the MMO in the dust though.

As little story as possible tbh

Like how Etrian Odyssey does it

"Here's a vague excuse to go dungeon crawling, now go do it!"

That time I finally managed to kill one of those damned deer in Etrian is the most memorable "story" point in any RPG ever.

And that's fine. We play the genre for different reasons

I like min-maxing, running around mazes, and looting

There are only so many ways an unsuspecting hero can save the world by killing god(s). I'd rather just get to the bottom of a death maze and kill a giant monster, because that's what's fun about RPGs for me

Have you played Crimson Shroud?
It's "RPG" all the way down to badly-painted miniatures, crappy model terrain, and polyhedral dice.

Please, if there is a god, we'll finally get more. It had so much promise and I genuinely really liked that game, especially the fact that you were never locked into being a warrior, rogue, or mage.

Yeah, we really need more RPGs that has the same depth as KoA. The closest I can think of is Nioh.
